Internet explorer browser

On my Internet explorer (i know I should use Firefox, but it isn't my computer) there is a little icon in the bottom left corner with a page and a big yellow triangle with a big black exclamation mark on top of it, which means that there is an error/bug on the page. I'm not sure if this is serious or not, just thought i'd warn you.

I had a look at the site using internet explorer (I use firefox) and didn't see the error icon. Does it appear at certain moments when you do something on the site, or is it constantly there? As Lynx said, IE is usually crap and has a mind of it's own, it could simply be buggared :)

Opera's not a bad browser, same features if not better than Firefox (tabbed browzing etc.)

Not sure how it compares security etc. wise though, and I don't think it's as customisable.

I personally use Firefox as my primary browser and then Opera as the secondary.

Yeah Opera is good if you know what to do. It is very customisable - works better with all scripts and securtiy is 100% brilliant. It does what you want. Tabbed browsing is good, keeping an eye on your downloads etc. It has brilliant features once you get used to using it. I also sync my opera with my phone (nokia 6680) which I use Opera Mobile on so I get all my bookmarks on that too :D

I wasn't criticising Opera, I've never used it before so I don't know what it's like, I just wanted to know why Lynx recommended Opera over Firefox.

As a web developer, not entirely true. Internet Explorer has a set of known bugs, for sure, but many of the issues, often seen in cross-browser scenarios, that people highlight are often as a result of poor code or poor standards adherance in said code. IE does its job most of the time, it's just that we can rely on Firefox doing its job more of the time. Even Firefox isn't bulletproof, though (nor Opera). Arcane or ill-defined standards are often to blame for this.

It would be really helpful to me if you could double click on that icon when you see it and then take a screenshot of the resulting dialog, or type the information up into a post (screenshot preferable for accuracy).

I use Firefox and have Opera as a backup. Opera seems to runa bit faster than Firefox, but it's keyboard shorcuts are different than Firefox, IE, or other programs that I regularly use.

Firefox isn't the fastest browser for a number of technical reasons, it's a tradeoff for it's flexibility and portability.

I used to use Opera together with Opera's excellent mail client, m2. Over time it always got currupted as the thousands of deleted spam messages lingered around in its database, but hidden from view, this slowed opera down a lot.

I'm now using Firefox, i like the extentions. Opera isn't bad at any rate though, just the mail client has some technical issues.

No just FireFox and Opera AFAIK.

A basic explenation of what it is:

In I.E if you open a new window, it appears on the taskbar as a seperate program, in firefox it's within the same taskbar icon but at the top of the screen there's a bunch of tabs (look like bookmarks) which you can click to change window.

I used to use IE but i found it very annoying and now I use Firefox, its a lot more reliable and there are better features than IE. Never tried Opera, might check it out.

There are some modded versions of IE that use tabbed browsing. Crazy Browser for instance. Although its version of tabbed browsing looks a lot messier than FF or Opera.

Internet Explorer 7 will have tabbed browing, it has been confirmed. Looks like Microsoft is finally catching up with the times.

Firefox is (at the moment) a more secure browser too, as the uneducated masses still use IE, which means that most hackers concentrate on exploiting holes in IE rather than mozila browsers...

It spits out exactly two warnings that say that, on a seemingly random basis. Have fun :P
