So...

We recently started having issues with our (now previous) ISP Pipex.

So, we phoned pipex (part of talk talk) and got our MAC.

O2 broadband was a great service(from the outside looking in), we got switched over, all was hunky dory until as of the 14th July 2010, O2 changed their contract for the Access package (ADSL over BT equipment) from 'Unlimited' to 40GB a month.

We are in our 30 day 'grace' (called happiness with o2), and will be asking for our MAC once again.

I'd like to ask people for ISP recommendations.

The following 'limits' apply.

Upto 8MB connection (well within distance of my exchange to get the full connection)

ADSL (not ADSL2+ ...yet...)

Not Cable, Or Fibre.

[edit]Unlimited usage allowance also required :p[/edit]

That's it, hopefully I can get some help with this :(

I've used plus.net for yonks. They usually appear quite high up the comparison sites. Never really had any problems with them. Tech support is pretty good too.

ADSL Max.

Hence trying to get people away from ADSL2+ :p

I knew without checking samknows what was available, didn't know we only have 460 residential connections though, A company will not upgrade our exchange with their own equipment without atleast 100 people wanting their service...

I can crawl back to pipex, or I can take up BT Total broadband (the services are stuck at £25 a month), so it would appear that I can't get cheap, awesome broadband until our exchange possibly gets upgraded next month...

I'll set my mother loose on BT so she can hound them into a cheaper broadband deal, and see where that leads.

OR you could just use your internets responsibly? It's not that difficult to deal with a download cap :p

There are 5 people that live here, using the net, as well as other people that come and go visiting. We live in an empty area, our local exchange has a total of 460 homes ...

Our Wifi is unlocked, and has no intruders as there are no neighbors. People that come here to see us can use it freely.

Then ofcourse D, there is iPlayer, something of which you don't have anything close to in Canada I assume... This is a fairly large bandwidth hog, but is a great feature for the UK online.

Can't turn around to the bill payer and say you can't use more than 40GB a month, as it will just end up in a case of well we'll get a better package then (been through it before).
