iPhone UK / O2 cost comparison

Keep wandering back and forth on getting an iPhone. Unsurprisingly, keep bouncing off the rather large price tag. It's entirely possible I've made buying one moot by spending and allocating much of the money I would have spent on it to other things (board games, maybe a small holiday in October)... still, can't help but look.

I've thrown a sheet together to do some cost analysis based on their web published figures and my guessed usage profile (based on prior personal mobile phone contract on an admittedly much less sexy phone). Figured others might find the comparison useful so I've attached my Excel 2007 spreadsheet.

Shout if you've got any questions.

On contract, data and wifi are unlimited and free (within a fair usage policy).

On pay as you go, data and wifi are free for the first year, then available at £10pcm after that.

Thus they're included in the sheet. Make sense?

I must admit I probably use the other stuff more than the actual phone part :D. But it does it all so damn well I can't put it down.

I didn't think the 3Gs was that expensive, at 24 months for the 32GB ...
I paid £99 for the 8GB 3G handset on an 18 month contract, at £35p/m (600mins 500 texts) When my contract is near ending later this year, I will be renewing the contract for the 32GB handset, as 8GB is really tiny when compared to the amount of music I have on my iPod (30GB)

No, I just didn't regard it at £170 ish as expensive, considering how much the 8gb was, last September:)

however, the handset if I were to buy it right now is around £540 :(

I think you and I must have a different level of disposable income... :)

£1K over two years is a fair amount of money to me.

My view point on it was even with my discount a iPod touch 32gb is a big chunk a d for me that was sort of the choice I'm so pleases with my 3gs it is Awesome. I've not had such fun with a new toy in a long while. It does everything it does very well. First month expense is very significant but I'm now back to paying the same as I was 18months ago with 3 and getting lot more for my money. It is a big expense but if you think you'd find one useful and can find the pennies I can't say enough good stuff about it. Except that iTunes in windows sucks soooooo much arse.
