Nope not in the slightest. Check mine I'm all about the solo selfish skills was on my last char as well. Our great and glorious leaders have various skills in leadership as they will fleet/wing commande stacking the benefits from those skills down to plebians such as us.
Unless you particularly want to get into commanding then don't bother with those skills tbh.
Eve is made so you can play it as you see fit. Obviously it helps when you have people with MONSTAR leadership skills Like Vibs, mostly because all your stats take a massive boost when you fly into a system with him which is always nice.
Don't worry about it if you don't want to lead, it doesn't interest me in an ingame sense hence no leadership skills planned for bobrek. You plan what you want.
One thing that I would say having a quick look at your profile is get more of the learning skills up. They are very dull in the short term as they don't really gain you anything short term but they save you an age in the long term. Do you have a vague idea of what you'd like to do ingame so we can possibly help in getting you a medium sized plan in Evemon. Evemon is a great help as once you have your plan setup it will optimise it and suggest what learning skills to what level are beneficial.

As bob said, there's isn't much point in everyone having leadership skills in Eve.
The way grouping works is outlined as follows
Fleet (Has a fleet commander, and an assigned fleet bonus)
--Contains up to 5 Wings (each with a wing commander, and an assigned wing bonus)
----Contains up to 5 Squads (each with a Squad commander, and an assigned squad)
------Contains up to 10 Squad Members
So, if you don't have the leadership skills then this isn't a problem, as you just fly as squad member!

As for you Jane don't worry about it and just train up for better ships and more powerfull weapons. If your gonna get into other things like mining and industry I can throw you tons of guides on areas in that since my look into it as I'm pushing for Mining Fleets and Operations around high sec untill we get a clear friendly area in null, low or a good worm hole.
