Well, as I can't find this on the forums, I feel the need to post this (oldish) game, called .kkrieger. It's by The Produkkt, a German team, and it looks really amazingly, stunningly good. It really is great. There is a beta demo available of the first chapter (all that has been made so far), which you can download. The news site has some rather new posts (06/10/06 at time of posting this), so it may well be a full game some day.
However, the REALLY cool (read:geeky) thing about this game is the download size. A 5-10 min playable demo, with 3 (or maybe 4?) weapons and 3 (or maybe 4?) enemy types, textures, sounds, et al., is a huge download of 98Kb.
Yes, it's under 100Kb.
The game is made with procedurally generated content, that is to say that everything in the game is made with algorithms - not images. This cuts down the game size while increasing the CPU and RAM usage. Still, it's a very clever idea. The same idea was used in Darwinia to make the levels, they are generated with an algorithm and a seed, not by absolute locations.
Still, it's a fun little demo, and well worth playing. Though remember, it's still a beta.
