Laptop graphics problem/crashes

Right thought I would post this up see if anyone can help me out.

As some people might know I bought a Evesham C510 last year (its the same as the Asus Z71v) and at first everything was hunkey dorey. Then strange things started going wrong.

Sometimes when I boot it up rather than booting in the correct resolution it reverts back to 800 x600 and at first it was saying new hardware...couldn't find the graphics card. found that if I restarted it on the choose user screen it would boot up fine.

This problem has now got worse. Sometimes it needs 3 restarts to get to the right resolution and using the graphic card properly. Plus the other night whatever I started doing gamewise it would crash after 2 mins.

My thoughts.... think it might be heat since the fans on the bottom or maybe the graphics card is slightly lose, but being a laptop I don't fancy opening it up.

Anyone got any ideas?

try reinstalling all your graphics drivers and get the latest versions from the vendor's website... it may help! Also see if you can secure that fan properly if it is loose...

Also, if you could tell us a bit more about this system - what are it's specs etc (yes I'm lazy today) and also tell us what BIOS revision you are running, and see if there is a new version you can install.

Also check the official evesham technical support channel - this could be a known issue with your model. If not they might be able to supply you with a replacement.

Its not the fan that I think is loose more the card since its so intermittent as for the drivers the graphics card Is Geforce Go 6600 so I found the most upto date drivers that included the go versions and those worked fine.

Its strange since the problem is so intermittent and it seems to be worse at the moment.

Nice laptop btw. :D

Moving on, the fact that your problem is intermittent makes things a bit more complicated. Heat is one possible cause, however dodgy manufacturing is another and at this point I can't offer any specific ideas as to the cause of your problem. When I had a problem with my notebook (Acer Aspire 5002LM) I contacted the technical support and they actually had some useful advice - I don't know Evesham's technical support service so I can't say how much use that will be, however they may cast some light on your issue.

Heh, and I love the marketing spin put on these things:
Audio DJ With Audio DJ, a unique feature in ASUS notebooks, you can listen to your favorite songs without entering Windows.
Unique my rear end. I had that feature in a laptop from '98 (HP Omnibook XE2)!

How old is it? alot of these systems will have a manufacturer's warranty with them as standard... perhaps you can get it replaced... the problem here is that if they replace the whole laptop you will firstly be without your laptop for a while, then secondly be without any data you have on the hard drive for your laptop, so naturally it will all need backing up.

See that's where im think Im up to now, I have no idea what's causing the problem. Being a laptop I don't want to open it up. So looks like I am going to have to call customer support UGH. I bought it in End June last year so hopefully its stil in warranty.

so what happened?

Laptops arn't thatdifficult to get appart and put back together their not as scary as people think.

Whats difficult is upgrading them, because there's no space for new stuff, but reseating a socket or something is quite easy

Aye what did happen to Fury?

It's been 24 hours and he hasn't replied!

Perhaps his angry machine ate him, maybe it'll stop rumbling now ;).

Well I did what they said and at first everything seemed hunky dorey.

Tried it today and it's doing exactly the same thing again.....

First no boot for ages after pressing the power button.....
Then it eventually starts up but in the wrong video setting......
restart twice and its in the right resolution

GRRRRR

Little bit more of an update. I ran that Cpu-z program Pest posted up to see if that could tell me the motherboard that the laptop has so I could check its temp properly.

Annoyingly though I couldn't figure out what motherboard it has. It comes up with the make as being eveshamvale and model M7v.

If anyone can find out the model of the motherboard in the Evesham C510 I would be grateful.
