Topic says it all really. If interested give me a poke and I'll give you a contact email to send your CV on to.

It'll be around 25k (possibly less if junior), in a small software dev house working on retail apps, doing pretty much purely .net development.

VB6 would be benefital as well, but not mandatory.

If you're looking to get into programming without much prior experience this could be a good chance, but I'd keep your salary expectations on the lower end in that case. Main thing is showing you are a logical thinker and keen to learn.

Dear god :-|

Would I get to work with you? :D heh

I've already got a job though :( oh well.

I think the candidate would be purely doing vb.net tbh - but the reason VB6 would also look good is we have older apps that need converting to .net, and it's always nice to have more than one brain around who can do that.

You'd be working in the same room as me, not with me. I'm in my own little bubble managing my own projects. ;)

Is it an awesome fluffy land filled with boobs and alcohol?

vb .net - i might cry :(

Why might you cry? :p

They do C# as well!

There are at least two sets of boobs, and semi frequent alcohol giveaways!

p.s. I have not had a drink this year. :p

Hey, :)

Would they consider footing relocation costs for a senior with a ton and a half of experience in all things Microsoft (as well as PHP, Java et al)?

Cheers,
J.

o_O This is intriguing. Unfortunately I've only got some basic C# experience from my college work. Oh, that and I'm still in college. And signed up for Uni :/ Gah, good luck on your search though! :P

They're pretty tight fisted on salaries so I'd be surprised if they'd cough up for relocation. Put it this way, I'm on 8k less than I should be. I put up with it because I like the place and I like that I'm just doing fairly laid back development. If you are very senior wouldn't 25k be a bit low for you?

I will certainly ask though. Can't hurt, right?

If you can let me know what sort of cost/package you'd want - deposit? x months rent? Where you are relocating from? etc. Via PM. That would help me pose the question to them.

I think you are underselling the job Silkth. For instance, i would put more emphasis on the location. Who wouldn't want to live and work in Milton Keyne's? I once did a round the world holiday for about 7 months (Asia/Europe/US) and spent about 2 of those months in MK. I remember they had a really spread out shopping mall, a cinema complex, an inside ski place, generic planned housing communities, endless roundabouts where i kept stalling my car... the list goes on.

Best of all though was 1 day when i was in the mall and they had a fantasy collectors convention and there were a bunch of actors signing autographs. There was the midget who was inside R2D2, the dwarf from LOTR, Malfoy from Harry Potter and a bunch of b-grade Star Trek - Next Gen actors, plus other people i had no idea who they were. I went to get the autograph of the midget in R2D2, but the little bastard wanted 20 quid for it. Turns out they were all charging (or whoring themselves as i suggested to the midget) for their autographs. Funniest thing was you could tell who was really unpopular by the prices charged (lowest was 1 quid). I tried to get one of the 1 quid actors (i had no idea who he was) to sign my left boob for a pound, but he refused... bastard!

Were they selling for charity or something? I would hope so!

And yes MK is awesome, I especially love the fact that you can get from A to B with very little hassle due to a pretty awesome grid road system. Lots of roundabouts though, and you can expect to feel a bit lost 'til you get used to your H's and V's.

I'm not underselling the job, tbh they'll fill the role even if I don't ask around. I was just giving my online friends a shot at it if they were interested. :)

I honestly can't tell if this is a serious post or sarcasm.

If you had a good time there mate, good for you, but I never thought I'd see the day that someone UNDERSOLD Milton Keynes...

I'm studying .net, innit. Would they hire anyone whose highest qualification is a HND?

Just asked and ideally want someone with 18 months working in vb.net as it'll be delving striaght into the nitty gritty / complex code, interacting with autocad, that sort of thing (not just noddy screens and UIs).

If you can sell yourself it's still worth applying, can pass you his email so you can send CV.

I'd consider re-locating but I'm still studying and I'm pretty sure yer man isn't willing to wait 'til September. Good to know there's jobs though!

Why might you cry? :p

I'm with Wol on this. VB.NET makes me cry. Loss of refactoring tools, peculiar ways of thinking, long-hand notation, oddities with what it treats as null or not, etc, etc.

All in comparison to C#, clearly.

As you say, £25K seems okay for a junior but with a few years experience I think one'd be looking for more like £30K and senior more like £35K+.
