Eurogamer are reporting that Max Payne 3 will be released towards the end of this year.
Something about that makes me worry that they're going to create a game that breaks Max Payne for me. MP1 is one of my top 5 games ever and while MP2 wasn't as good I still enjoyed it thoroughly as a return to the genre while not needing to lean on references to other things to survive; Max had enough history of his own, by then, to stand on his own two feet. But "a new direction" sounds suspiciously like what they were threatening to do when MP2 wasn't as successful as they hoped in that they were going to cut out the story elements to have more shooting... but I play MP for the story, damnit!
Guess we'll have to see, but I'll be dusting off my Berettas to deal rough justice to the developer who messes with (messes up?) my favourite Max.
