Microphone problems

I shall cut a long and otherwise tedious story down.

My microphone works on other computes, but not mine. It picks up no sound but outputs sound fine. I have tried a multitude of other microphones. Mic Boost is on, and I've muted and un-muted.

Rep to the first person to fix! And I'll give more information on demand!

are you using one of those on-board 5.1 sound cards (with just the 3 sockets)? They change the function of the ports depending on the software settings you have for them. if you are, make sure that it isn't set to be used as a 5.1 card, making sure that the port you have it plugged into is actually set to be a mic port.

It's the one with three sockets, yes, but what do I do to fix it? Lol

Move the microphone socket into all 3 of the sockets until you find the one that works. Or you can alternatively plug it straight into the front of the computer where the microphone socket is, see if that works (presuming you have a socket like that)
