They have remade Monkey (a.k.a. Monkey Magic). A new version of the late 70’s series, shown in the UK in on BBC2 the early 80's, has just aired in Asia.

For those who might not remember the show is based on a 16th Century Chinese epic called Hsi Yu Chi (Journey to the West). It follows Monkey, a resourceful and amusing immortal character (it involved eating some of the gods peaches, don’t ask), as he escorts the character Tripitaka on a mission to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from India. Traveling with them in this dangerous mission are the pig daemon Pigsy and the water daemon Sandy.

Truly, the nature of Monkey is irrepressible!

Hah, I saw this on the BBC website and considered posting it up, thanks for doing the work for me :D

I don't think I've ever seen this program before...or even heard of it. I do recall a strange foreign program that looks slightly similar. Ah who knows.

Looking forward to seeing this.
It was a very strange but enjoyable program on bbc2.
I remember the awful dubbing of the voices more than anything.
Oh, and didnt he whistle for a cloud taxi.
Cant remember why, but didnt he used to pull hairs off his chest for something.
And then there was the fight scenes that remind me more of the 'Banana bunch' than 'Crouching dragon'.

The remake has remained faithful to many of the original elements - the fighting stick that shrinks to fit inside the human ear and the magical cloud that Monkey uses to travel great distances.

Is it me or does this sound a bit like the guy out of Dragonball Z too? Complete with tail.

Watched Kung Pow the other day which is a micky take out of this sort of thing..... I want those 2 hours back :(
