It turns out the Playstation 3 launch in Japan wasn't all it's cracked up to be. If this report is anything to go by, the people who queued up to buy one were homeless or low-paid people paid to do it so the console could be sold online for a massive profit.

Had a quick look on Ebay and the cheapest PS3 was about £560 with a lot of them over £800. One was on Buy it now for £1100. I always suspected some people in this country were stupid buy there is a limit.

I looked on ebay last night and the cheapest ps3 I saw was about $1200 US... and the most expensive around $3000 US.

ebay have made a special policy regarding the sale of the ps3 and the nintendo Wii stating that you are not allowed to set a buy it now price and that the auction must be either 3-day, 5-day, 7-day or 10-day and you must also include a photo of your receipt in your auction page or it will not be be deemed as a valid auction. This probably means some people will make more money out of it too...
