Well, for a start you'll need to put them in a DVD compatible format from whatever they're in at the moment. (ie get the converted to a folder full of .vob, .ifo , etc).

You'll also need DVD burning hardware (though I'm sure you could have guessed that).

Another solution is to simply burn the divx movies to a dvd and plonk them into a compatible DVD player - many new ones can play DivX files too.
Or, if you don't mind losing some quality, you can convert your movies to MPEG-2 and make a video CD.

It's really not my area of expertise. The most work with DVD's I've done is backing up 8.9gb discs to 4.5gb discs (it's an interesting problem) and also ripping the DVD's to my hard drive and to DivX, rather than the other way around. In this case there is no real substitute for professional software but a well-defined google search will yield what you seek.

I asked this exact question in #TheHaven a while back. Still haven't really solved it.

I downloaded some software that converts .avi to DVD, and also lets you create a menu for the DVD (to select which movie). But I think the DVD format is crap, and I won't be able to fit many movies on a DVD. Much better to just burn the .avi files straight onto the DVD.

I find the easiest way to convert them is simply by using WinAvi, and converting the Avi format straight to DvD format. However there are other ways, I used to use a program called TMPG. That program lets you choose your Avi Files and converts them into one MPG file.

The good thing about it is that once you have converted the file it lets you authour the Movie so you can put in chapters etc. and it also has a Burning application.

So thats a great program to use as it does everything for you. So if you can get a copy of it from a friend or somewhere ;) then that will do everything for you, Or else I think theres a free trial so you could try that although I don't know how long it gives you or what features.

If you want the free trial or get a copy then heres a guide on how to use it http://www.allformp3.com/dvd-copy-software/divx-xvid-to-dvd.htm

If i remember correctly you can use Nero Burning Rom to make a DVD movie, and it will encode the movies into the correct format for you...

yeah I wouldn't advise that you use Nero for it. You will either lose a lot of quality or it won't work at all.
