The Register's hardware desk is doing an article on current iPod alternatives if you, like me, aren't interested in forking out for the branding.

Not that I'm looking for an MP3 player. If I was, though, their first choice recommendation might well suit me.

the sandisk players are awesome, though personally i'd go for the 16GB Sansa View which is avaliable for about £100 on amazon

i'm looking into getting one to work on rockbox as they have some very nice hardware inside

Before I had my lovely discount I'd have either have gone for a sandisk or one of the creatives.
