New Mouse

My mouse appears to have kicked the bucket.

The laser has either died or become misalligned, a quick once over indicates its not gong to be fixable.

It was a logitech G5. I was very happy with it, and would just replace it with the same model, except it's not available any more. Suggestions?

Looks like the closest equivalent is the G500? Any users of that one?

The G500 is the newer model of the G5, though I haven't used the G500 myself so make of that what you will... (I use the G700)

disclaimer: I am a logitech fanboy so will recommend their kit :)

It doesn't have Weight Tuning and you could just always leave the cable in if you REALLY wanted...

I find that the mouse suits me well because it is more weighted to the rear of the mouse, however - perfectly to my liking :)

I'm all about the logitech so G700 or G500 for me anyday, If you like wired then G500.

I would say wireless on the G700 is awesome, been using for a year and never had an issue.

second this, many people are put off by the fact that it's wireless, just because it's wireless. It's an advantage, not a disadvantage...

Just not a fan of the wireless apple mouse that came with my work comp. It cuts in and out all the time, and wastes battery like there's no tomorrow.

I've ordered the G500

It still feels weird in my hand, but it's getting there.

That looks crazy, unnecessary and brutally uncomfortable.

I guess your hands look something like this?

I'd consider a high quality wireless mouse, now. Cable drag annoys me. However, a low quality, poor connection wireless mouse would obviously be totally unacceptable.

Sounds like the G700 does it right.

That said, I still have a MX510...

Your upgrade is the G400 :)

Only had experience with the Logitech MX518 and Razer Naga and id recommend them both highly. Although the Naga is more centered around MMO's, he extra buttons at your thumbs can be very useful. The macro editor that comes with it is pretty snazzy too. Though for a workhorse of a mouse, the MX518 has weathered many a storm under my palm.

I tried the RAT9 at a LAN event, I found the rear of the mouse too high for my liking in comparison to the rest of the mouse even on its lowest setting - so yes, it is entirely preference :)

I use a claw grip on my mouse so my palm hardly never even touches the mouse. I let my fingers do the magic :)
