[Tech] New PC

OK. My PC is finally starting to show signs of giving up the ghost so I'm hoping to source the massed brain power of the THN collective to help me come up with a shopping list for a new one.

My budget would probably be up to £1k or a little more at a stretch and I already have the following components:

I do a small amount of gaming, mainly Minecraft and TF2. I also do some video editing and capture (currently in Win XP 'cos of my version of Premier) so I don't need anything amazingly powerful.

Would like the ability to do 3/4 monitor output (but not necessarily eyefinity) and currently have 2xDVI monitors.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks All.

If you want more than 2 monitors, you need an AMD/ ATI card. I'm using mine as 3 desktop monitors rather than eyefinity at the moment while I wait for the drivers to sort out the taskbar :)

For the rest of it, i5 2500K and a z68 motherboard will do you. 8GB of Corsair Vengeance LP Arctic White (low voltage) ram and you're most of the way there.

You might want an SSD, anything with a Marvell chip for longevity.

thats 16gb rams though and differences in prices from 15th jan to now.

thatll set you back about £500. I'd argue possibly a new case than the old one? PSU should be okay as thats only a year old. and then nice monitors to take you up to your budget. eyefinity 6 card if you want a possibility of running 4 outputs?

As suggested here is my current spec:

  • Coolermaster Elite 330 Case with PSU
  • Asus P5KC Mobo
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
  • 2 x 1GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
  • 2 x ATI PowerColour X1650 PRO 512MB PCI-Ex16
  • Various SATA HDDs
  • IDE LightScribe DVD-RW Drive
  • OS: Windows 7 x64

(and a blank post [x2])

Edit: Found the original order:

7770 will handle TF2 fine, which seems to be the game with the highest demands that you play, also has the 3w zerocore tech for running idle when just using 2d.
6850 is the choice if you absolutely must have 4 monitors.
