Re: Oblivion

Anyone know why my compy seems to randomly restart itself while playing Oblivion? Anyone else have this happen to them?

Re: Oblivion

I found a few neat-o glass weapons - 2 glass claymores and a glass battle axe - in Baun, south of Bravil, last night. They kick some serious twat. Also got a nice staff and some super Swamp Boots that feather me 50pts, very handy.

Any other suggestions that don't sound like such big problems? :)

Yeah Fuzzy Bunny my computer will either crash to the desktop, crash to a blue screen or restart the computer while playing oblivion. It does it in Guild Wars aswell but not as frequent.
I've ruled out overheating and graphics card fault as it doesn't happen to any other games. I do reckon it could be my bad power supply.

nope, the "big" problems sound pretty much on the money.

Not too sure.... Kamahl was saying he had similar problems, with crashes. Plus I have bought it today, tried to go from the cave from the sewers to the imperial market and the whole computer restarted. Seems it may be happening to a few people.

buggy code should only hang the application - if it takes down your os as well then its either a buggy OS (or OS driver i.e. graphics drivers) or you're pushing some element of your hardware a little too much and instability is creeping in. Both of these are symptomatic of overheating/overloading type issues.

I know oblivion has lots of bugs - everytime I exit the game it hangs and I have to kill the process. It doesn't take my machine down with it though fortunately. Fortunately roaming around hasn't caused me any issue's so far other than a pathetic frame rate with the graphics all turned down :)

Well, Morrowind crashed a lot due to a fatal flaw, it was said, with the engine itself. I'm really hoping Oblivion doesn't have this but we'll need to see when the first patch comes out.

Lol, the 360 version crashes all the time!

My original Xbox must of crashed twice in four years, but the 360 crashes every week!

I get a similar crash on exit, but the process self-terminates fortunately. However, I've never had a problem in-game. I've also not had any real performance issues with my Geforce 6800 GT. I think having 1.75GB of RAM really helps too. That said, I'm only using quite middling settings with no AA.

It doesn't always crash on exit for me, which is really too bad. It takes ten times longer to exit when it doesn't...

I end up killing the process when I want to exit as well because it sits for so long when I try to exit normally :/

Same thing happened every timeI tried to quit Morrowind so I'm kind of used to it I suppose...

Would cleaning out the computer's case help any? This is the first game I can remember doing this so consistently...

You must have a real live giant rabbit stuck in your 360. Mine hasnt crashed once. The loading times have slowed down sometimes, but nothing that cant be sorted.

Re: Oblivion

Not even once?

Meh, my 360 also messes up movie playback on some DVD's. It makes them judder .

How many hours have you racked up? Me housemate and I have chomped up 100hrs and I say it's crashed about 10 times :(. Maybe that's to do with the cache issue? I haven't tried the button press yet.

The game has only crashed once outside of the loading screen for me, I dropped 600+ worth of weight in one big chunk (loads of potions), looks ace when you drop it all because it fans out around you :). Anyhoo, I got chased by some guards over it and then fired a Thunderbolt into the middle :D.

...too.. many... vector calculations... bzzeep... *death* :).

Oh well, it's finished now so back to BF2. That's only crashed thrice in 400hrs :p.

Re: Oblivion

The DVD playback stutter is probably caused by putting your 360 PAL settings to PAL-60. I put mine to PAL 60, which sorted the jumpy intro movies, but made Fight Night run in fast forward and made my bros dvds judder. We have to keep switching between 50 and 60 :/.

As for hours played, im not sure ATM cos Im at work but probly about 20 hours, maybe not even. If your game crashes during loading screens, you might find that it hasnt crashed but is just loading incredibly slowly. Mine was taking about 5 minutes to load the imperial city (and increasing each time) when I decided enough was indeed enough and found that site that explained the cache system.

I haven't touched the Pal settings, but I'll have a fiddle when I get home to sort try and sort it out. Cheers for the ideas :).

Crickey. When you clear the cache is there any indication (apart from reduced loading times, but that could take a while to notice), that it's worked? Some sort of comedy chime maybe?

Well, the you can hear the 360 clunking away as its in the process of clearing the cache and the big Xbox 360 OS screen stays on the screen for a little longer (I think). Apart from that, the shorter loading times should be the noticeable difference. When I say 'shorter' though, the effect wont be instantaneous.

After youve cleared the cache the thing will inevitably start to chuck all the the data back in again once you play the game. Initially the loading times will be a little slow while its re-cacheing (sp?), then theyll speed up once its dumped its data into the harddrive, and then itll slow down again once that data becomes fragmented. Hopefully theyll release a patch or something to sort this out. If not, I dont care. Its a good game.

Oh and R_S, Ive been saving that one up for a while :) This lad from Edinburgh sprang it on me first when I was waiting for a train. ('Is that a train coming?' 'No, its a real live giant rabbit.' [/sarcasm])
