I'm going to start off looking at how we're currently building and using both upgrades and boosts and then take a look at what we're thinking of doing for the future.
The way we have been handling upgrades and boosts over the last 2 weeks is like this:
We get a couple of the long running guild wide boosters ready to run over the weekend, then any additional influence we earn then goes towards the final couple of upgrades (econ 4, arch 4 + 100 slot stash - we'll leave the 2nd stash upgrade for the moment as 150 slots should be enough).
The main reasoning behind this is that there are most people active at the weekend so that gives the boost to the biggest group of members.
Currently, between us, we're bringing in about 3k influence per week.
This weekend, if the dungeon groups go well the payoff should be pretty good and speed us towards having more influence to spend on things that give a direct boost to all of you!
Influence has been one of the things Ronin and I talked about when trying to decide a way forward, basically it boils down to this:
The supply of influence is limited, everyone earns influence, so everyone should get some benefit from it.
There are several ways we can give back benefits from influence, but for the moment, making sure it's something everyone benefits from has been the priority.
Banners are cheap to build but way more expensive for duration than the guild wide boosts, hence guild wide boosts have taken precedence over them.
The second issue is permissions.
The main issue with permissions at the moment is that they're very coarse. We'd like to give everyone permission to activate banners, and say "here are 8-10 banners to use this week, use them for as many guildies as you can", but that would also currently give access to the guild wide upgrades, which is not ideal.
So, in the interim, we're looking to try out some new permissions in the following couple of weeks:
Officers: we have a few people in mind we'll speak to, they will get access to activate upgrades.
THNer: guild members that are identifiable as THNers will be able to claim forts in WvW and invite people to the guild as the rank of Member as well as having some access to the larger guild vault.
Members: they will no longer have access to invite people to the guild, and will only be able to access the small 50 slot guild vault (we may take this away, as yet it's undecided).
To be clear, if you're reading this then you're a THNer so you'll be in the THNer's group not the Member's group. We hope that this will allow THNers to give invites to non-THN friends without that getting totally out of control.
So to sum up. We're giving some small guild wide boosts at weekends while we work towards the last couple of larger upgrades, and we're looking at giving people more access to some more features including WvW claiming
