On Privacy

Hey, :)

Splitting threads, for possibly no valid reason...

the lack of concern for your privacy is worrying.

I wish to know why.

If I can do whatever I want anyway...

If I can go wherever I want anyway...

If I can think whatever I want anyway...

If I can say whatever I want anyway...

Why should I care about privacy in and of itself?~

Cheers,
J.

Because those rights are much more difficult to take away if you still have the right to privacy.

Hey, :)

Two things:

1) Oh, so, the "right" to privacy is just there to protect other rights?

That's... obscure. And definitely worth back-burning for convenience's sake at each and every occasion.

And,

2) In any case, that statement, while appealing, needs proof.

Cheers,
J.

Simply, if you have the right to privacy, you can do whatever, go wherever, think whatever, and say whatever -- and even if you don't actually have the right to be doing those things, no one will be able to persecute you for them.

Hey, :)

Sorry, D, but:

Simply, if you have the right to privacy, you can do whatever, go wherever, think whatever, and say whatever

This part is patently false. Police and other enforcement forces have many ways of impeding me without knowing what I'm doing or even who I am.

and even if you don't actually have the right to be doing those things, no one will be able to persecute you for them.

And this is a good thing, then?

Cheers,
J.

Right, but there are strict rules regarding what can actually be done to impede you, until you are proven to be comitting a crime. Or... there used to be strict rules regarding such things, but that tends to be changing for the worse. That's really what this is about.

In a world where the powers that be are slowly striping away your rights in order to gain even more power, yes it is important that you can exercise your basic rights -- weather they like it or not.

EDIT: I might suggest a readthrough of Little Brother for a worst-case-scenario sort of glimpse at what the current attitude can cause with the wrong trigger...

I see. But in that case,

Why should I care about privacy in and of itself?

I'm sorry, man, but your arguments are circular. Distilling what you've written here, it reads like "privacy is important because privacy is important".

Cheers,
J.

Right. Since I am unable to sleep and getting rather irritated, I will post only one post here.(Meaning that I will not be responding to anything further)

On_Right to privacy.
Privacy can be viewed from different angles.

I personally will be damned if I will ever let anyone impose on my privacy.
Some things are not meant to be shared and thus considered private.
Privacy can mean things like you not having to share all of your thoughts with the entire bloody world or every single thought with the governments, etc.
So on that part, I support the right to privacy.
