Just a heads up, I know some people not just me were getting out of memory issues when view distance was set to far, as well as being unable to use HD texture packs. This sorted it for me..
Download the 64-bit version of Java. For Windows it is available here.. The first few lines of the minecraft HD patcher "log" tab tell you what version of Java you are running.
