[Tech] PC Upgrade × Something Else

Ohai, everyone.
It has become a habit of mine to plague this forum with my posts whenever I can't figure some technical stuff out or when I simply want to borrow a deciding hand.

I decided to reward myself for my exams and generally being awesome and until recently, this reward was supposed to be a new CPU (as I currently have an E8800 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo), new motherboard (as I currently have Gigabyte S3G) and along with it new RAM (as I have DDR2 and all the new socket mobos have DDR3).

I was thinking along the lines of:
INTEL Core i7-920 QuadCore, 2.66 GHz
Asus P6T
A-Data 6GB (Kit 3x2GB) Tri-Channel DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-24), OC

This comes down (where I would buy it, that means not the sites I linked - those are just so that you non-Czechs can read them) to some 520quid, which is a lot of money. As for this setup I linked, I am still not convinced I even NEED this much new power - sure, some of my programs are beginning to get choppy (see the older graphics card thread), but it's quite workable...

A friend of mine recently suggested, however, that I could look into the possibility of buying a console instead, thus saving around half the price and expanding into a new niche, as well as this option lasting longer, probably. There are just three problems with that.
a) I don't have a big TV, just my 22inch computer screen
b) I have no console games, whereas I have all the computer ones
c) the computer upgrade would also affect all my other computer activities (browsing, whatever).

So currently I am torn between not getting anything and saving the money, getting the CPU+MB+RAM upgrade and getting a console.

What are your thought on this topic, what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Angel

They're actually quite nice, Though my question to you, mister Ange, what would you be doing with your old parts if/when you upgrade your machine? :)

For the i7 stuff, I haven't begun looking into what I'd upgrade into yet, so can't overly help you there.

The RAM, I have no idea who said manufacturer is, and as such would be a little cautious with them as a choice for such an integral part of your pc :p

I would probably just keep them... :) Or put together with my other spare parts, building a new machine. Or e-waste them or something. Dunno.

I've been using the A-Data RAMs in this current machine and haven't had a problem, so I'd think they are alright.

As for the i7 stuff, if I go for 1366 socket there's just this model if I don't want to go for 450quid CPU alone.

If it's of any relevance, I was looking at getting a new system the other week (although monies are tight so it'll have to wait for now) and I was looking at the following sort of setup (mostly for some gaming, after effects and premiere cs5 editing/rendering):

-Core i5 750 2.66ghz 8mb l3 cache (LGA1156)
-Asus P7H55-M mobo
-6GB Kingston DDR3 1600mhz (2x 3GB)

When I specced out all the components it was coming to about £500 uk pricing, but I guess it would depend heavily on what pricing you can find tbh.
