Planetary Annihilation

Right, so I'm normally one of the lurkiest people on any board, but I wanted to give a heads up about the Kickstarter for Planetary Annihilation. If you've not seen it, it's basically Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander meets multiple-worlds-at-a-time scale.

People here may be backers already, they may not, but it's on it's last few days and has steadily marched from it's initial $900,000 goal for making the basic game up to $1,500,000, which has added three nice stretch goals for more planet/unit types. If they can hit $1,800,000 they'll be adding an over-arching 'galactic war' option to provide a huge campaign option.

I'm already in on this up to my current financial limit because they honestly seem to be fully on-board to create what could well be a large-scale RTS masterwork. If anyone here likes RTS games - like TA/SupCom - and hasn't taken a look, do so. If you like what you see, throw some cash at it if you can - $20 gets a digital copy of the game when it's built, and that's now a given.

Anyway, I hate advertising, and my feeling of brotherhood with this development house is now satisfied... so please continue with your regular HavenNet reading.

Ta.

Its important to note that the video is not game play footage. This is closer to a true kick starter than usual in that they have not got any kind of game play demo. That said, I backed it in the first week and the video is awesome.

Will need to take a look at this later. Recently got sup com (on elDs suggestion) and went from thinking I would hate it to kinda loving it pretty quickly. Apparently elDiablo knows stuff about games. WHO KNEW.

Okay, kickstarter for Planetary Annihilation is on about a day to go; they've smashed through the $1,800,000 goal to add a strategic "galactic war" mode to the game, and now they want to try to get to $2,000,000 to have the same orchestra that did the Total Annihilation soundtrack do one for the new game.

$2,100,000 would apparently pay for a documentary of the development process to be made.

Anyone wants to throw money (or more money, if you've already thrown some) at them, do it soon! ;)

Too late to worry about it now, anyhow, it's done - they raised a total of $2.3 million in the end. It could be terrible, but given that a lot of the people they have on the project seem to have been major players in creating RTS's I really liked, I'm willing to see how it goes.

Watched some of the live video feed of the 'countdown' party they were having at their offices, and they were answering a lot of fairly technical software development questions near the time I stopped. Sounded like they had a fairly good idea of what they were doing.
