Now both Drae and Haven have hit their message quotas - is there no way to make a big spangly warning popup going "youre close to your message limit - clear stuff out else noone will be able to message you" sort of thing?

I asked Ronin about getting more space, but he said it aside from not being simple cannot be done on an individual bases.

You already get a message when your PM box is close to full, 95% if I recall.

There is a fair bit of badgering already on overfull inboxes. Haven was heard to mention, last time we increased the PM quota, something to the effect of "doesn't matter how big it gets, it'll still get full and be worse for being larger".

Hopefully the Hey Admins thread should have the desired effect.

The big grievance for me is, if you send a message to multiple recipients and one of them has a full inbox, the other ones don't get the message either...

Here's a crazy idea...you could DELETE some of the messages in your inbox...

Or, you know, even more useless things like sent items.

Meh I just napalmed my inbox - plenty of space now.

It is annoying and there really should be a "just nuke it" button to clear it down completely

I could just double inbox sizes, but I'm not sure this does anything but make it harder to deal with when the problem arises.

What we really need is a "drop oldest message off the bottom option", once you hit your cap old messages are automatically dropped in favor of new ones.

With that, I'd prefer a way to mark a message so that it wouldn't get dropped, though.

You can create message folders and hive messages off that way. I've got around 9 PMs that I keep separate in that way.

I really don't understand why people need to keep that many PMs... archive them into folders or even copy-pasta into word documents if you are that obsessive. Doesn't feel like it warrants a site change.

That doesn't remove them from the cap, and the export function is allegedly borked, i haven't tried it though.

Yeah, that's the issue I was having. Would be nicer if it was "Have sent the message to everyone I could, and missed off those who are silly".

vBulletin has an option to strip messages from people's inboxes, but it's pretty indiscriminate.

It's on days like today that I muse on writing replacement forum software, just good. But not in PHP, god no.
