Posting Events

Events are held on the Calendar. Currently, we have just one calendar -- TheHavenNet Events -- but potentially we can split that up into many calendars if we need. e.g. one for Battlefield 2, one for Alien Swarm, etc.

For the moment, we're going with one.

Unlike IntegraMOD, if you have an event just post it to the calendar. If you want people to sign up to an event, you need to tick the "Allow users to specify that they will be attending this event." option when posting the event.

Of course, you may want people to discuss the event too. To do this, create a thread in the appropriate forum for that event and add a link to the discussion in the event description. However, I suggest that you don't use discussion threads to get people to register for an event as the event system can do all that for you, and more effectively.

Public events are very welcome, even encouraged!

However...

Do not assume that the appropriate server admins have read your event or realise there is a need for their involvement in getting a server ready for your public event.

If you want to make use of Serenity for an event, drop a PM to either a Moderator in the appropriate section (who can then pass it on to the relevant person) or ask around until you know who the appropriate server admin is.

Broadly, the people you will need to speak to are:

• Pestcontrol, for Unreal Tournament and Alien Swarm
• Ronin Storm, for Battlefield 2
• Haven, for anything else (Counter Strike: Source, etc)

Mmm, that depends...

If you're asking me whether it's okay to arrange a clan match then you're best talking to the BF2 Admins (pHatBambi, Piacular, HotStuff, Twisto and Fi$hy, I believe).

If you're asking me whether it's okay to use Serenity for a clan match then as long as it's not conflicting with something else we're wanting to do then sure. What you need to do is create an event (as detailed in the FAQ) and get people signed up, and then PM me with a date, time and requested server configuration. The BF2 Admins can help you sort out a lot of these details.

If you're asking me whether I want to participate in a clan match... well that's one for PMs direct to me, and largely I'll say no.

It's worth raising the point that we have a variety of different types of Admins in THN, including:

• Board Admins, responsible for keeping THN Games running
• Server Admins, responsible for keeping Serenity running, or particular games servers on Serenity running
• Game "Admins", responsible for promoting, organising and otherwise managing a particular game that we play here in THN

Not all games have Game Admins, and their duties are less technical than the other two, hence the quote marks to give the sense that they're managing that but not the people to configure the server, necessarily.

In all things, we have different levels of Admin too... there are Junior Board Admins, Server Admins who only oversee one game, and so on.
