Okay folks, after the "dramatic success" (read: total failure to happen) of my last attempt at this I've decided to try again.

So, it's pretty much the same idea I'm pitching now as I did two years ago.

An event, based in or around the city centre of Glasgow, will take place involving any interested THN members. The setting has yet to be decided, but could be one of the following:
  • Someone's house - if someone is particularly accomodating or has accomodating parents (depending on their circumstances) then it would be possible to hold a LAN there. People could bring machines along and the gaming would commence.
  • Failing that, there is an option for Microplay Gaming, which is a LAN gaming centre just outside of Glasgow Central. The machines and the games are already there, you just pay to use them for the day and that's it. Handy for not lugging stuff around, but you lose a little flexibility (like custom games) and it does of course cost more to do.
So, those are the options, let's hear feedback from interested folks! :)

I'm a maybe because of the distance :p

Though depending where abouts I may be able to stay somewhere relatively close, If I can remember where my dads friend lives that is Clyde or something? (Mother shouted the name didn't spell it!)

Also I don't think you need to have that 'let me see the votes' anymore because you can click 'see results' :)
I'm ticking that as a Maybe because you didn't stick that option down :D

Just wanted to reply to some folks in one post:

Maybe Clydebank? Definitely within public transport distance (about 10-15 mins from the city centre)

Yeah, sorry about that, should really have added that one. I'll count votes according to posts, and just use the poll for quick reference only.

I doubt your motorbike would be in jeopardy as it's a prime city centre location, but I don't think it has dedicated parking - for the same reason. It's as with everything, though, so there is of course always a risk (just like any other city I suppose). I have to say, maximum respect to you if you were to make the journey from Hull to Glasgow by motorbike! As for dates, see my musings below.

Well, if we go for the option of somebody's house, then I would be able to lend my main PC (I would then use my laptop for gaming). Of course, the house option is more unlikely as a full scale lan party can be quite invasive, and as I think most Glasgow-based THN'ers live with parents it's maybe not probable.

On the other hand, the gaming centre does seem like a pretty attractive option - everybody is on a level playing field (all the same hardware) and of course opens up the door for things like public transport.

I'm noting that there is some great interest from some people not from the Glasgow area (again, my respect to all of you to be willing to do such a journey in the name of gaming! :D), and to make an event fully worthwhile for folks if there's going to be travel, it would probably be an idea to stage the event over two days (or more! :D).

Assuming we take the Microplay option, Saturdays aren't open for booking (it's first come first served it seems) so it would probably have to take place during the week sometime (although hopefully there will be a bank holiday to take advantage of). How would people feel about an event taking place during a weekday(s), most likely around the end of the week (therefore leading onto the weekend)?

Also, it would be my intention that once we reach a consensus on numbers and the type of event, that the date is set at least a month in advance, to allow for adequate preparation (eg booking holidays off work, etc). As with the above, thoughts appreciated.

Okay, I think I've talked enough for the moment - feedback please! :D

Yeah sounds good! I live near Hull so that's where my fear of theft originates! LOL

If I did come, would I be able to leave my bike at someones house (preferably in garage)? And would there be accomodation, because it's cold on the streets lol!

I can do a weekend thing, but I have college and work so during the week isnt a good idea :( I'm happy to get up at 6 to que for a lan on sat morning haha!
