Punkbuster unknown windows API function

OK I've done everything I can think of to fix this and I keep being PB kicked from COD servers with a
Punkbuster unknown windows API function thing.

I've kicked pbsetup I've rebooted I've smoke magic punkbuster healing powder through an evenbalance donkey buttock and still no joy.
I have googled and got no real help there.
any help would be awesome as i want to get killed by Trax and his G3.

sounds to me like a missing dll somewhere because it is trying to use a function that it cannot find, indicating a possibly dodgy install. Without getting too technical, if you can get a program such as the one in the windows SDK (called "depends") which allows you to see what libraries that dlls and exes depend on, you may be able to find out what it is.

Catch me on teamspeak and I can help you with this in much more detail. Of course I could be completely wrong here

if, however, this is the problem, try adding your CoD4 installation directory and also any directories within it that contain dll files to your path. Make sure that these entries go LAST in the list of paths for your PATH environment variable, so it doesnt break other programs.

Again, just suppositions based on the available info and I may be completely wrong here

I doubt there's somet missing as it's been fine all week and has suddenly just done this half way through a round earlier today. Apparently talking to few mates this is going around and no one seems to know what is going on.

right well the problem was the steam community thing. With it turned on my game dies with it off all is well. Hazaa.
