Random wow thoughts

I started wow on Valentine's Day 2006. It was my boredom, lack of a date that year, (well my gf was around, but in Copenhagen, while I was in Oslo), my having heard about World of Warcraft for some time from friends, but deciding Not to try it because I feared I would become addicted (HAH, the irony).

I had been a mudder since 1995, on a mud called Valhalla - it is basically a DIKUII-mud. If you haven't played muds, they are basically text-based RPG's. No graphics that get out of style in a few years, lots of imagination and reading room descriptions closely to get hints on that quest you are on.

I remember when I from 1998 was playing Counter-Strike (I KNOW!) and hanging out a lot at a computer cafe in Bergen - I saw EverQuest become the rage in 1999, and decided it was not for me. "Graphics? Who needs graphics?!" (aka "Who needs COLOR television?!"). In 2000, when I was manager of that computer cafe for half a year, I watched how some people played most of their days away in the world of EverQuest, and it always looked like they were walking somewhere, looking for something. Endless walking! How stupid!

So in 2006, when I after a long period of rejecting WoW decided to give it a try on Valentine's Day, I levelled an undead warlock called Ehich (Ehich had been my online nick since 1998, being replaced with Dltq in 2002), and after a while of initial grumbling (that bat looks so Fake!) I enjoyed it! At level 23 I met a guy who was levelling a priest, and he knew someone in a guild called Totally Bullox, who let us in even though we were superlow level and had proved nothing yet.

Since then, WoW has always been about social relationships for me. I don't mean treehugging let's all love each other and sniff each others' behinds, but for instance the organization of the raid group or together with some others working on specific goals.

Here I am, at 73 currently, on a new main (my 4th since Vanilla), and I am in a guild I like - along with you guys and gals! The Haven isn't a very big guild, we mostly do 10-mans, but I have already seen some people who not only play a lot but also know a lot about the game and are willing to share.

I don't think I will be raiding a lot, tho... I am busy with work (currently a project manager at an IT company), over-work, and family life at home with wife and 5-month old rascal boy. I will however do my best to become a competent Paladin Tank.

I don't see a lot of threads like this on these forums; personal expressions. I might be breaking some law by posting this, but admins - just move it to another sub-forum if it is more fitting there :)

Ok, off to work! See some of you tonight when I log on again to tank more instances.

Oh, and I am scribbling down random thoughts on my new wow blog. Check it out if you want. Any of you have a wow blog?

Cheers,
Ehich/Raymond

[Response]Random wow thoughts

'Tis indeed the perfect place to post it. And I would just like to say that this thread made me smile for the first time this morning :)

Also: M.U.Ds for the win ;) (I used to sit on SVMud. And helped code libs, rooms, items etc etc for another MUD project)

CS: It used to be a -somewhat- good game. Tolerable. You know. Before every person with the mind of asugar-filled five year old started yelling "Haaaaaaaaaxx!" every five seconds for getting shot :p
So will not blame you for playing it back then :)

EverQuest: Good enough to pass time. EverQuest II was slightly better. Managed to keep people occupied for a few years, despite the horrible ammount of bugs :D

World of Wacraft: An advanced 3D chat application with things to do*giggles*
And Undead is win. Forsaken Priestess of the Shadows here :p
World of Wacraft is indeed about socializing, even if many have forgotten.(Quote RvB: There is no -I- in team. There's no -you- either. So if I'm not on the team. And you're not on the team. Nobody's on the goddamn team! The team sucks!) :p
And this is why I am glad that The Haven exists. Even though it may not always show, we are like(at least in my eyes. And now more than ever) a big ol' family :)

As for raiding: Take all the time you need, to be honest. World of LifeCraft comes first ;)

No: Ha en bra dag på jobben! (Eng: Have a great day at work!) And will be having a look at your blog as soon as I come home from a meeting :) (That blog has sparked curiousity in this little squirrel *giggles* )

Hoy, :)

Graphics? Who needs graphics?!

Yeeeees. :D I played Elendor, Tolkien-based MUSH, for AGES, before finally letting go of it due to work pressures. Then, at work, saw a bunch of people (including the boss! :D) playing WoW and tried like hell to stay away from it, knowing it would just suck all my free time dry. And it did! :)

Any of you have a wow blog?

Not a WoW blog per se, but a (*very sparse*) general gaming blog:

Lisbon Gamer

Here's one WoW page I did, though, half an eternity ago...:

Wedding Under Spirit Lights/

Anyway, glad to have you on board, mate. :) You'll find that, community-wise, you will always get as much if not more out of this bunch as you're willing to put in. You want a home? Here's one for ya! :D

Cheers,
J.

Hey Zooggy! My son Henrik is born December 12th 2010, the day before your Diana!

Here is a video of Henrik taken just seconds after his birth:

Oops, I trailed off-topic. Or off-wow I guess.

Yes, a home. And it's good that THN isn't only about WoW. I like that. There is life after WoW, after all.

@Fae: Yes, Lifecraft is the best :) More sustainable achievements! ;)

Has she learned to crawl yet? Ours hasnt, pout.

I am now 74, officially mid-wotlk. Boooring!

But one drop at the time, one ques at the time.

Each quest gives 2% of xp needed for next level, approx. 50 damned quests!

I have no point in this post.
