In Cryo Sleep
I started wow on Valentine's Day 2006. It was my boredom, lack of a date that year, (well my gf was around, but in Copenhagen, while I was in Oslo), my having heard about World of Warcraft for some time from friends, but deciding Not to try it because I feared I would become addicted (HAH, the irony).
I had been a mudder since 1995, on a mud called Valhalla - it is basically a DIKUII-mud. If you haven't played muds, they are basically text-based RPG's. No graphics that get out of style in a few years, lots of imagination and reading room descriptions closely to get hints on that quest you are on.
I remember when I from 1998 was playing Counter-Strike (I KNOW!) and hanging out a lot at a computer cafe in Bergen - I saw EverQuest become the rage in 1999, and decided it was not for me. "Graphics? Who needs graphics?!" (aka "Who needs COLOR television?!"). In 2000, when I was manager of that computer cafe for half a year, I watched how some people played most of their days away in the world of EverQuest, and it always looked like they were walking somewhere, looking for something. Endless walking! How stupid!
So in 2006, when I after a long period of rejecting WoW decided to give it a try on Valentine's Day, I levelled an undead warlock called Ehich (Ehich had been my online nick since 1998, being replaced with Dltq in 2002), and after a while of initial grumbling (that bat looks so Fake!) I enjoyed it! At level 23 I met a guy who was levelling a priest, and he knew someone in a guild called Totally Bullox, who let us in even though we were superlow level and had proved nothing yet.
Since then, WoW has always been about social relationships for me. I don't mean treehugging let's all love each other and sniff each others' behinds, but for instance the organization of the raid group or together with some others working on specific goals.
Here I am, at 73 currently, on a new main (my 4th since Vanilla), and I am in a guild I like - along with you guys and gals! The Haven isn't a very big guild, we mostly do 10-mans, but I have already seen some people who not only play a lot but also know a lot about the game and are willing to share.
I don't think I will be raiding a lot, tho... I am busy with work (currently a project manager at an IT company), over-work, and family life at home with wife and 5-month old rascal boy. I will however do my best to become a competent Paladin Tank.
I don't see a lot of threads like this on these forums; personal expressions. I might be breaking some law by posting this, but admins - just move it to another sub-forum if it is more fitting there
Ok, off to work! See some of you tonight when I log on again to tank more instances.
Oh, and I am scribbling down random thoughts on my new wow blog. Check it out if you want. Any of you have a wow blog?
Cheers,
Ehich/Raymond
