That is indeed a rather fast CPU. Except it's not a CPU.

Let me quote myself from another forum:

IBM didn't really make a processor, it's just a single circuit designed from the ground up to switch transistors as fast as possible. It cannot execute instructions or anything like that.

Processors are not currently limited by transistor speed, but rather interconnect (= wire) speed and thermal limitations. These ultrafast transistors will find use in RF circuits like advanced wireless communications.

Well, if it is any comfort to you the newspaper's economy section stated "IBM speeds up processors by over 100x". Stupid tech journalists. But compliments to IBM for creating a good spin.

Also, no liquid helium needed as 350GHz at room temperature would suit me fine. If it were a CPU....
