[Tech] Razer Mamba

So, those of you who already know me will know that I love my Razer copperhead lazer mouse. However I'm thinking that after 4 years it might be time for an upgrade. Whilst browsing scan today I happened across the Razer Mamba. I've read a couple of reviews and the response is generally stunning. It is a little pricey at £100 but if it is as good as it says it is, I don't have too much of an issue with paying for quality.

Hopefully I'm going to persuade Graeme of Kustom PC's to bring a demo model to the i-series, have a quick play and then buy it if I like it.

Major plus points that I can see
2.4GHz wireless: 1ms response time and no damn cables
Weight: I've decided i prefer a heavy mouse and this has quite a large battery in it giving some extra weight whilst still being well balanced
Size: This is Razer's largest mouse, almost as big as Logitech's offerings. I liked the size of the Copperhead, but it's getting smaller as I get older (Jesus that sounds bad from a 22yr old :S)

So people. I throw this open to the floor and would be interested in substantiated answers. Try and keep the flaming down people and have an argument to back up your statements!

Yay! Something else that works on the same frequency as every fucking other device on the planet! It can't possibly get or receive interference, could it?!

And now, on a slightly less sarcastic note, I bet it has some issues with WLAN. I'd also say things like "don't put bodies of water (including people) between the 2 transmitters and receivers", but you'd need quite a lot to interfere and I doubt you would as it's a mouse (meaning the body of water would probably be on your desk in front of your monitor...).

Still, why do they do this? :( I'm guessing it's the cheapest option both in terms of frequency licenses and component sourcing, but still.

Back on topic, I might be upgrading my Copperhead soon too. Though nothing I have seen makes me want to at the moment :(

PArtially related - What happens if you get two people with wireless mice in the vicinity of each other? If you press the magic conect buttons between the two, will it be clever and work out which one is which, and keep the settings?

I have to go with bob though - I like my G5 - doesn't feel as spazzy!

It has knowledge of the device's mac address and can use anyone of 21 channels which it auto scans across. So interference should be pretty minimal. Also it's short range and probably reasonably high power so it's more likely to cause interference on your wifi than the other way round

£100? Money, sense, more than etc. My bro had a Razer mouse once, a Razer Viper, and it was bloody awful. Far too small for anyone's hands but a thalidomide youth, really imprecise and fussy with work surfaces and every so often it would randomly move the cursor upward (which made you look at the sky during FPS games). The only thing to be said for it was it looked cool, but I don't subscribe to all that flashy PC loaded with LED bollocks so that meant nothing. I hope things have moved on a bit since then, but probably not so far as to be worth 100 smackers.

My bro and I both swear by Logitech MX518s - large, dependable, precise, versatile and it won't cost you the Earth, mars and jupiter to buy one.

I've seen a number of people on the Multiplay forums comment on their Mambas and not one of em has said a bad word about it.

Vibs, if Kustom don't bring one to demo then I'm sure if you asked nicely enough on the MPUK forums then someone with a mamba at i38 will let you have a little play :)

That would require venturing onto the mplay forums though. I struggle to keep up with these forums and I can access these at work :S

Multiplay as well, not a chance!

Cool, Graeme sounds quite optimistic about getting a demo one, and if i'm thinking of buying one i hope that might encourage him :D

I myself have been thinking of replacing my G5 with a Roccat Kone...

I'll look into trying one out at i38 myself I think :)

Get a G5 they are the sexiest mouse in the world.
They are also handshaped unlike the razer. The latest Razers are better but still the side buttons are in nasty positions and you can still buy a G5.
I can't really see any reason to buy any other mouse. Also that is crazy expensive.
