Recruitment issues.

I do not entirely know what is happening recruitment wise only what I see on forums. I have already spoken to Zooggy about this on a one to one basis but I just want an open view on the topic.(No offence meant by takin this to group discussion, our chat helped alot :) )
Firstly, I would like to thank members and officers for inviting me and Iilyas and helping us settle in. This is by far the best guild I have ever been in to date :) But I'm just a little worried that our guild is becoming crowded with raiding dps and people are complaining about not enough "active" tanks and healers. Yes, I am a tank but I like to play other characters too, so maybe I am "inactive" but it's how I choose to play. It doesn't annoy me when people whisper me on other characters sometimes asking me to tank when I'm really not wanting to be on Nero, but what annoys me is when they then over /g or TS or whatever start sayin "omg, there are never any tanks" Same i'm sure applies to healers.
Secondly I think that recruitment since I have joined at least has been an ongoing inward flow of dps which I think is causing the lack of "active" tanks or healers. I am merely looking for your open opinion on this topic please. I am not tryin to take over or be an officer or make any decisions. Just this is a forum and this is a topic I would like to hear more views on.

Thanks for reading :)

While we have been accepting alot of apps, we are beginning to be way more selective with who we let in now.

Unfortunately, we cannot make tanks and healers apply to join the guild, so unless you have a better way of getting more tanks/healers in, things are probably going to stay as they are. Thing is though, with WotLK coming very soon, I wouldn't be surprised to see all apps dry up.

Unfortunately, especially also with the recent release of Warhammer Online, I think that for more raiding to happen we will have to wait till we're all level 80 and the playing field has been levelled...

The other side of the coin is that we've had a few DPSers roll healers, which are now reaching raid-capable status, thinking particularly of Tinghamoo and Featherwind, our new resto dr00ds.

I agree that it's annoying if people are whispering you to bring another character. I get it all the time on Tajzinh, and as I'm sure several people will attest, he's no tank :)

On the other hand, if a group's struggling for a healer, I'd rather they ask me if I can bring Elauria, rather than give up. If I can't do it, or don't want to, I simply say "No, but thanks for asking. Good luck!" - in fact, I'll probably end up macroing that :D

When it comes to a progression raid, I'd hope that anyone who joined the guild to be a raider would be a bit more flexible to bringing the characters that the raid needs - I'd like to get more gear and badges for my rogue, but for progression raids, I know that my healer is nearly always going to be needed.

Regarding the number of DPS classes, we do accept a lot of people on a membership-only basis, as part of the community and not as mainstream raiders. Those people will always be considered for raids if we're needing a particular class or role fulfilling, but Trial Raiders and Progression characters will get priority for raids. The exceptions now would be Kara and the T4 25-mans, as there's hardly anyone needing the kit from those now, and so those raids are open to the casual members, within reason.

It's not entirely uncommon for people to ask me if I can respec Arithidrimme and bring her to tank something, or if I can bring Syraneth to come and heal, and usually I'm happy to come help if I'm needed and wanted, but... well, I just don't use Syraneth for PvE anymore, for some reason she just feels really frustrating to play in that environment (something I'm hoping will change for Wrath), and Arithidrimme... well, it's easier than I care for for me to get tank stress, and I'm less willing to tank now than I used to be. If you catch me in the mood when I AM willing to tank, you've got me, but if I say no, please don't be offended; it's nothing to do with you, in such cases, it's my problem.

Hmmmmm.... "Tank Stress" I suffered from that massively, a couple of small suppositories and a reroll soon sorted out my symptoms :)

I got tank stress at lvl 30 with a warrior alt and since have agreed that it is much more satisfying playing a healer class

I didn't say anything about anyone being able to make tanks or healers join or apply. I was simply sayin that i thought especially more recently the guild is becoming very DPS heavy. And recruitment isn't looking to be slowing down. I didn't mean to offend anyone, I am just making sure people see my view and the post was to see other peoples views on the matter.

I guess its all percentage based on whats available really. Those that play tanks or healers as mains soon realise how much easier DPS is, and how much less crucial it is when you go splat (in most cases) :p

Then again, Ive seen a few Havenites levelling bear tanks lately, so a few DPS are changing to tanks.

At the end of the day, theres a far larger amount of people that choose DPS classes than tanks or healers, and due to the makeup of 25man raiding, theres usually "too many" DPS signed up =\

I personally enjoy playing Ranewen alot, i prefer healing as opposed to tanking but i can understand why alot of people who have tanks and such prefer to dps when they can.

As nice as it is for me to be able to get into raids almost garanteed if a healer is needed that dependancy becomes way too much sometimes and a horrible pain. i know many others including myself have grown to hate the fact that alot of the times bringing their dps is near impossible.

I know most times im indifferent about who i bring to raids, but its a little disheartening to know the chances of me ever getting zhinrak in is quite low.

Haven has had similar problems where he would like to bring his rogue to instances and such but has to bring his tank.

Unfortunately its not a problem that can simply be solved by getting more tanks and healers, its more of an issue of getting the ones we have to be around more often and more willing to instance.

Over the summer i did many many heroics on my paladin healing, and the main person i had tanking for me was delaney, primarely because i could poke him rl. when he wasnt around due to comp issues it was suprisingly difficult to get any tanks, and when i didnt want to heal the same issue arose [albeit not as much]

The big downside is im no longer gonna play WoW, WoTLK has completely lost my interest and now back at uni ill presumably be busy with work so im not really helping this situation.

On that not with WoTLK around the corner and WAR just been released many people have stopped playing so this problem is only going to get worse, and i predict will begin heavily effecting our raids.

all you can really do is ride it out till WoTLK and hope that all the tanks and healers come flooding back for the expansion alive and ready to instance.

Apart from the usual relative scarcity of healers and tanks, I think WotLK paralysis is a major problem right now. There isn't much point in raiding anymore and doubly so for tanks and healers: Any gear progress they make now isn't even going to make leveling easier for them once they spec DPS for the grind to 80.

Many people are very active on alts right now. I think this is all good since it's gonna give them (and ultimately the guild) choices when the expansion hits. I, for example, might make my resto shaman my main at 80 because frankly I'm a bit bored with Dups. Other people may consider switching classes as well. IMHO we just have to wait till the WotLK dust settles and then look at who we have.

Precisely my thoughts!

As far as I'm concerned, I'll be one of the resident Druid / DK tanks, since I've directed Zaggorn towards a main tanking role, and I'll see how patch 3.0 affects Druid tanking in the flesh. I'm quite worried regarding loss of overall mitigation, and a DK tank / dps may be an option come November if they screw things up immensely. Either way, you have a tank right here. :)

hmmm well as was said I think there are two issues...one is wotlk inertia meaning people dont raid as much and the other is having to rely on a relatively small group to be available.

Here is a suggestion maybe to think about for the officers

Allow people to have two raiding characters as long as one of them is a tank or healer. They still have a main character and the other is nominated as a secondary. A main tank or healer gets a raid spot in preference to a secondary. I know we already do this to a certain extent informally however doing it in a more formal manner I think has the following benefits

1) A list is available to who is putting the raid together rather than knowing who has a viable alt

2) The gearing and ability of these second characters becomes known

3) Being able to have a nominated secondary character may encourage people to roll and level alts for these purposes

I think that's a good idea.

I've started a discussion about it in the officer's forums - tbh I don't think much about this will become solid policy until we're all 80 now but it's certainly something to consider for that point :D

I joined on my hunter a few months ago, and I'd just like to say that I'm happy to bring my healer whenever needed. I don't raid 25-mans with him anywhere else, so.

I've been doing some levling on my pally lately, I intend to make him either tank or healer once he gets to 70/80, but he'd still just be an alt.
