A mute prisoner is approached by the King. The King says to him 'I will put two beads in an opaque jar, 1 is yellow and 1 is black. If you choose the yellow one you survive. If you choose the black you die.'

The mute man sees the king place two black beads in the jar but he can't tell anyone. He pulls out two beads one after the other, how does he live?

He picks up one bead and swallows it, not showing it to anyone. He then pulls out the last bead and shows it to everyone. They see it's the black bead, so they assume it must have been the yellow one he swallowed.
