So it all crashed.
First of all, remember to thank Haven for the work he has done to make sure we can read this post at all.
Then...
So, what happened?!
It is difficult to tell, exactly, but preliminary reports indicate that Serenity's kernel failed. No, I don't know why or how, but our server host also tried to use an old kernel and this wasn't configured for the network so Serenity is down and out for the count. Haven has the logs, has access to our old data, and the Admin Team are now formulating our next plan.
So, when's it going to be back up?
Serenity requires a rebuild. Sure we could just go ahead and do that but we were already looking at future options that would help us work around this sort of issue much faster and easier. Paravirtualisation may be our next step. Yes, it's a real thing. We're not sure whether to go there just yet. Haven will likely make the final call on it.
Either way, Serenity requires a rebuild. This rebuild needs Haven's time, with support from the Admin Team. This may put that rebuild into next week, given that. Personally, I'd be exceptionally pleased if we were up and running a week on Friday (23rd).
It's a whole bunch of arse and every time someone pesters Haven with "hey, is it up yet" it'll slow everything down and, eventually, just piss him off. Don't ask, just be patient. We'll post updates when things change.
So, what about TeamSpeak, Radio, Battlefield 2, Alien Swarm...?
TeamSpeak is up on Saratoga.
Radio is down.
Battlefield 2 is down.
Alien Swarm 1 and 2 are down. 3 is up as that is not hosted on Serenity.
Comedy is down.
Counter Strike: Source, Unreal Tournament, etc, etc are all down.
The Unreal Tournament file mirror is down.
How are we seeing all this?
Temporarily, Haven is hosting THN Games on his business server.
Can I help?
Just now, probably not (unless you're seriously interested in helping out with Linux server administration with THN longer term, in which case probably you can help). We're on it, we'll keep you posted. Thanks for the thought, though.
Questions?
Post 'em in here, please. Save PMs for important stuff.
We want all this stuff back up as soon as possible. Just bear with us and we'll get there. Thanks for your patience!
