Ok so I've been hacked.

Just to let you know, I will _NOT_ be online at all until this issue is resolved.

I understand this can take weeks to sort out sometimes, so please, if you see me online and I'm not on teamspeak to defend myself, let me know.

It's very likely that I will be performing a full re-install of my whole computer now.

To the guild: I apologise, I really do not know how my account has been compromised. I will of course be making extra sure from now on.

This is also a wake up call to the rest of you to make sure that your details are safe too...

EDIT:

For clarification, I have 3 characters:
Qantaqa
Esuna
Asandir

Got to work today and the first thing I did was check I had the latest flash player installed.

Turns out that I didnt and there was an error in upgrading it to the latest version.

So it seems that they have managed to rip my user/password from my work pc.

This is especially annoying, to say the least...

I think that after this little episode of events I am going to be getting the Blizzard Authenticator...

They won't be able to get into my account at all then...

I can second that. Flashblock makes surfing faster and more secure.

Regarding logging into your WoW account from your workplace: Don't ever do that!

Modern proxies used in companies temporarily decrypt SSL traffic in order to apply content filtering. So your WoW account password can theoretically be sniffed by a malicious admin.

Flashblock, AdBlock Plus, AdBlock g.filterset updater, Spybot S&D (with Teatimer active), and CCleaner. Used that lot together and had the same password for three years, so either I'm lucky or it's a winning combination.

I did, however, change my password a couple of days ago; better safe than sorry

so bearing in mind the fact that I contacted a GM to say that my account had been hacked and that everything needed to be recovered, and then that I had already recovered my account as i was speaking to them about it from said account, I have an email from Blizzard today saying that they have reset my password.

I go to account management to change it and... account management is down >_<

Just talked with a GM earlier. It can take over a week to get sorted, apparently. Not to mention the fact that the patronising bastard of a GM I got was saying that I shouldn't get so upset about it and think of all the other people who've had their accounts compromised. Yeah, well I don't see them losing most of their gbanks over it... *grumble*

Just think, all day long he deals with people that have an attitude just as bad or worse than yours. The GMs have a thankless job, and you're just proving that.

Of course, BiG D being a GM of sorts (Or at least the person who is responsible for everything going wrong with people's PCs) has nothing to do with that reply. :p

With some of the service they provide they dont deserve thanks.

Dont get me wrong, ive talked to nice, friendly, helpful GM's and had great experiences (and no, in all these cases i did -not- get my own way, thats not the connection), but for the most part (80% i would say) they are rude, patronising little shits :(

I just can't ignore that. Another outright dig at someone for no reason at all and not advancing the thread any further, merely dragging into the gutter and making us feel like the bad guys when people who get payed to provide support provide nothing. They may have a thankless job, but if they provided any answer that wasn't "Working as intended" or "We are looking into it" or "Sorry, we can do nothing for you", which I should clarify are they three 'macroed' responses they alway give, their job might invoke some sort of thanks from the people they are supposed to help. I shall finish by saying that if you're going to post things like that in our forum you are no longer welcome. Make sure the door doesn't hit you're overly large head on the way out...I'm going to bed....

Even if that's the case, an unappreciative attitude isn't going to help the situation. They undoubtedly get hundreds of hacked accounts to track down items from every week, and the process of recovering items surely isn't instantaneous. They can't just bump your request to priority one.

In my experience, you get the best results by being friendly and appreciative. Even if you think the GM is being an asshat, just suck it up. Humour them for the five minutes it takes, and thank them for the effort. They'll be much more happy to help you.

I used to treat all GMs with the utmost politeness and respct in the hopes of it getting something done. But the fact that I'm usually met with inaction when there should be action (I'm not saying "should" as a matter of opinion, I'm saying a "should" as set down by the rules on the WoW website that form the basis of the GM handbook), and so very often met with a macro response that shows not even a slight attempt to LOOK like they cared, means that I have zero patience now with and GM that doesn't instantly impress me somehow (some still do, I would like to add. I've had some fantastic conversations with GMs recently. Some of them are witty, some are very empathic, some try to make me see the brighter side of a bad situation while trying to help). But I tear into any I see as ineffectual or not making any kind of effort. And the one who I received an answer from yesterday was patronising and bordering on rude, so he has no excuse at all.

They are paid by the money subscribers pay to play the game. They are the customer service, and they don't even TRY to earn that money a lot of the time. I have seriously had conversations where everything the GM said was word-for-word identical to the conversation I'd had with TWO previous GMs. He just hit macro keys each time, and the resulting text didn't even properly match the conversation. It was sickening.

On a side note, I agree with Tbone, to a degree. I'm fed up with people coming in and derailing threads with pointless, unnecessary comments that evoke bad feelings when they should have kept their mouth shut and thought before typing.
