I’ve never been able to get my speakers quite right on my PC so thought I'd consult the brains at the haven.
The speakers are Sony SRS-D511
Manual: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/cpp-s...rl=http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/2593589221.pdf
There’s switch to turn “dual stereo” on or off. You’re only supposed to turn it on if the output from your soundcard is 2 channel or 4 channel. If you have 5.1 output (which my card does, it’s a create xfi xtreme gamer if you wanna check) then you turn dual stereo off and it should use 5.1, as it says in the manual.
When I turn it off to use 5.1, my bass more or less vanishes. The only way I know it’s working is to go into my speakers from windows 7 volume panel and go into the “test” tab, there’s a test that routes sounds through each speaker and the sub woofer and this all works perfectly and loudly. But anything else, be it media, games, whatever, plays little if any bass. I have to put my toe against the sub woofer to know it’s actually working, it’s a tiny tremor at best, and my speaker bass setting is set all the way up.
If I turn dual stereo on, I get proper bass, but lose 5.1 surround.
I think I used to get around the issue in windows xp by installing creative’s audio panel software for the xfi, by really messing around and turning bass boosts on and off (I kid you not) it would eventually start working properly. But this software isn’t available on Windows 7 yet, and thinking about it, it should just work, since the test clearly highlights each speaker is working correctly.
I can’t find anyone having the same issues, in fact I wouldn’t really know what to google but from my initial research the speakers and sound card have had a good reception and reputedly work well.
