Star Trek Online: Beta Application

Just thought I'd make a quick post for anyone who might be interested but is not aware that Star Trek Online are now accepting applications for the closed beta.

You'll have to register an account (or use a cryptic account you have already for Champions Online or whatever) and then answer some simple questions about your rig etc.

:D.

Not sure if I will give Star Trek a go yet. Got the key from Eurogamer but I haven't downloaded yet. Has anybody been on the Beta?

First impressions?

I happened to miss this post yesterday, Was hoping to try out the beta out before buying it. I'm not sure If I'll get it yet. Would have been nice to see a few more THN'ers to have had an interest.

I got a key and dl'd the client a few days ago, only just getting round to installing.
Will give some feedback later today.

So far, i'm liking it a lot.
The only negative things i have to say are about performance, and Cryptic have said the servers are jammed to capacity atm, but more have been ordered and should be installed over the next few days.

yes but a game that has a release date which is 2 weeks away a *much* better product is expected than has been seen

There has been a noticable improvement in server performance over the last week of beta, now i don't really see any crashes from my client, just the server going down from being overloaded with free-beta keys.

As the full game will be pay-to-play, there won't be quite as many players as right now, PLUS cryptic have ordered a new set of servers which will increase there capacity.

My only qualm is with the blatantly unfinished sides. Feds are quite polished, but Klingons are pretty wanton, and where are the Romulans and Cardassians that were promised?

Basically they need to release the game to get the money so they can finish it.

The expectations of games are so high these days, releasing a half baked product could instantly disillusion many people who would have otherwise stuck with it.

I do hope many people subscribe and they manage to finish the game properly.

I think it would be sensible to wait at least 3-4 months after its release before considering trying it out.

As big an MMO whore as i am, i just cant make up my mind whether or not to be interested in this game. My usual fav thing to do with MMO's is pick 1 character and play him through to completion, see whats around for top lvl to do then naff off when i find out that its f-all. I did that with cryptics CoH, but i couldnt even be bothered to try with champions online. I gave it a good go but lost interest before i even broke lvl 30.

It just wasnt a good enough game. Like CoH before it, it lacked massive elements. Like cryptic had made the world but were unsure what to get players to do with it. The early game was nice and original but tapered off quickly. I dont want star trek to follow the same schematic.

It combines two things i enjoy, star trek and MMOs, rather than be doubly excited i'm merely doubly critical.
