Steam Community

So, their friends lists were broken until relatively recently and straight on the back of that Valve have launched their Steam Community. It might even be okay, though I've yet to really play with it.

Figuring that a wider reach never really hurt anyone, though, I've created the TheHavenNet group there, which you are all welcome to join.

I've invited those who have recently upgraded Steam and have made their profiles public but my Steam friends list doesn't seem to have most of you on it so I'll leave joining the group to you.

My first impression of what this is is an XFire-alike, but for steam games. Unless it has extras that XFire doesn't, I'll stick with XFire :D

Cool saw this the other day and thought we could do with a group :D.

Joined it quite easy, is it worth making more of a non public group? So only Havennet members here can join it?

It's a bit more of a hybrid between Xfire Groups and this board, actually. I don't think it replaces either but, potentially, it provides THN with another vector for attracting new people to the fold.

You could always join the group just to show your support for all things THN, of course. :)

Yeah, I've had trouble running source-based games (including my TF2 beta! >:() since this launched. I suspect it's an issue with the overlay or something, but haven't had the time to poke at it yet.

Yeah I noticed the overlay seems to be messed up on source games, but when I was playing the original Half-Life I was chatting with DeZmond over it and I was impressed.

I haven't turned the in-game overlay on... or have turned it off or something. Maybe that might help?

I tried for a few hours last night to get it going. It appears to be an issue with steam itself. When a source engine based game opens, steam (steam, not the game I'm loading) jumps to 100% processor usage and sits there, which means the game can't load, and everything just locks up.

Nothing documented in the troubleshooting section, so I'll have to bitch at support sometime.

I don't think that's Steam Community's fault, well, maybe the lagging is, but not the bomb.
