I think that rather depends on what you want out of a game and for what price.

Much of the F2P stuff currently available on Steam isn't really for me but I imagine there's some play hours across them all if you just fancy experimenting.

That is true, i just got dissapointed with Forsaken World. If youre looking for a good free to play game i suggest League of Legends, just make sure you dont mind clicking....a lot

I quite like Eternal Silence, which is a source engine mod that Valve recently gave permission to be freely distributed, even without owning a Source engine product.
It's a sci-fi space shooter/fps hybrid.

i did quite enjoy spiral knights, was definitely good for a couple of days entertainment
