Build your settlement
Stronghold Kingdoms keeps the settlement building mechanics from the previous 2d Stronghold games, it looks as if certain changes have been made to streamline and prettify the game (newer sprites, and combining grain farms and windmills into a single structure), but overall it plays like the original.
Persistant strategic map with thousands of players
Pretty self explanatory, looks very similar to Total War, so it has the possibility to add a whole new level of depth to the game.
Realtime battles
Again, similar to Total War, when two (or more) people go to battle, it is done completely in realtime just like in the original games, and you are bound by the limitations of your research and strategic map progress. I'm not entirely sure if the barracks are just for show, like with TW, or if you can actually produce units mid-battle as well as through the strategic map.
Research stuff
To make the whole game more MMO-ish (read: grind), time and resources must be spent to research new technologies, improving both your economical and military prowess within the game. An interesting addition to the mix, but I can see how problems might occur when you have new players getting stomped continuously by the technologically superior armies of longer-playing veterans.

The most important bit!
In 2010 thousands of lords and ladies will join the race for the crown in Firefly’s new free-to-play castle MMO. Sign up for news on how to be one of them!
I, as a long time Stronghold fan, am very excited by this game. Stronghold 2 and Legends were rather disappointing, so let's hope this is worthy of the Stronghold name!
I, the glorious De Puce, approve of this thread.
