Tank pet

As BM spec, is there a massive difference in getting a tank pet, vs a DPS pet? In terms of taking down elite bosses that is.

Cat really doesn't last very long.. tempted to find a tanky pet but if the difference isn't that great, not much point.

I'm really talking about doing 3-man group things with myself and a 'lock (Sita) here (i.e. 2 man). My cat scrapes by on some, fails miserably on others. If it is worth the swap, can you recommend any lev 64-65 tanky pets? Do new pets gain the same amt of training points as a pet you've levelled up from lev 10? Presumably, after they become loyal?

Training points are can be calculated like that:

(pet level)*(pet's friendlship level) = Skill points

So there is no difference between a leveld and a high level tamed pet. Although some people say that leveled pets have better stats in the end for they get more bonus stats when they have a level up. But that is an unproven rumor IMO.

Hmm, well with my hunter I use a cat pet and I rarely have trouble. In terms of killing 3-man quests etc, I simply make sure mend pet is on. My hunter is also BM, but he's a Tauren and I stacked up a fair bit on stamina too, in the event that makes a huge difference.

Well, I think if you need a tougher pet, go for a bear. There's plenty around, easier to get one from Winterfall maybe. But to be honest, there isn't a great deal in it.

Not a big diff eh?

Well I must be doing something wrong.. I slap mend pet on right away and I have both myself and sita DPS'ing!

Maybe it's because I'm in mainly green gear.

Well, my hunter is in a great deal of green gear too, so I'm not sure that makes a great deal of difference. If you have trouble keeping your pet alive, try freezing trap to see if it works, if it does, let your pet heal in that time.

And like I said, I stacked up on stamina, even though I'm a Tauren I still have a fair bit of stamina for a hunter, over 400, as with agility. Just stack up on those two stats, my pet dodges quite a few attacks thanks to that, and has a fair bit of health too.

And dare I ask... are you rotating shots? :p

Don't see the problem with it then... again, it may be due to my stamina (400 something, plus the extra 5% racial) going onto my pet to bulk up it's health, I dunno.
And to be honest, in some group quests the pet will always die, if so, try freezing trapping them, and reviving, worked for me on that Shatt quest when you have to kill those two mobs and knock down an elite to low health ^_^.
