Team Fortress 2

I was never a fan of team fortress , but I thought I'd share it with you.

Valve Software's golden boy, Gabe Newell, made a surprise appearance at today's Electronic Arts Summer Showcase at Redwood Shores. Perhaps the one revelation that hit harder than all the rest was that the long-awaited Team Fortress 2 will be included with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 later this year. A trailer of the game was shown at the convention. From what we saw we can tell you that most, if not all of the classic character classes you know and love are back. The game also sports a new art style that's drastically different from Counter-Strike: Source or Day of Defeat: Source. Rather than going for a gritty, realistic look, the characters have a more cartoonish, flat-shaded look, comparable to the way Pixar's The Incredibles looks.

There you go  it isn't much but at least not Duke nukem forever :p

Ok there's something new .

"By evolving our development process to an episodic approach, we're able to reduce risk from things such as schedule and funding and invest more in new types of gameplay," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "This allows us to produce innovative titles such as Portal and Team Fortress 2 and deliver them in a timely fashion to customers along with Episode Two."

Episode Two advances the 16-million unit selling franchise, as Valve's trilogy of episodic single player releases continues the award-winning story of Half-Life 2. Armed with new weaponry and vehicles, Dr. Gordon Freeman must race through a countryside riddled with an increasingly feirce Combine threat.

Team Fortress 2, an all-new version of the title that spawned team based multiplayer action games, features the most advanced graphics of any Source-based game released to date. Players choose from a range of unique character classes such as medic, spy, sniper, or engineer and must work together to complete a variety of tactical objectives.

Portal is a new type of single player game that changes how players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment in a manner similar to how the Gravity Gun changed our approach to how an object may be leveraged in any given situation.

Team Fortress 2 and Portal will be included with all retail and Steam versions of Episode Two for the PC. In addition, these products plus Half-Life 2 and Episode One will be available in one tremendous offering for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. New videos from Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 will be released next week.

And a picture too :p I don't know how to make the picture appear so you don't have to click on it :/

Team Fortress was released in 1996 which is before Quake 2 was even available.

From what I can gather reading elsewhere, oppinion seems prety divided on the new 'look'. I'm inclined to agree that it does look cool — I think that particular pic would look even better without the depth of field effect that's been rendered into it. I love the stereotyped characatures for each class though, looks cool.

Looking at the pic those people look quite small (note the mains socket in the backgroud there). Maybe the whole game is going to be based in those kind of maps where you're the size of a mouse in this massively scaled-up room like the ones padman did for quake 3. That would certainly fit in with the new cartoon style graphics, though I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. Guess I'd better reserve judgment until I've played the game.

All we need now is for 3D Realms to announce Duke Nukem Forever going gold... Pigs might fly one day.

OMG. How did you find that? Planet Half-Life said it wasn't due out until 7.00 tonight.

Looks awesome anyway, thanks.

No worries :D See the little scales sign in my post though, click it :D Just kidding.

It was mentioned on the Intelligent Design IRC channel on Gamesurge by [II]Reeke (giving credit where credit is due), so, erm, yay! Looks good, non?!

Indeed, it should stay working, but as I'm not the admin at the site, I don't get a say in it ;)
