TeamSpeak woes

Hey, all, :)

Lately, I haven't been able to connect to TeamSpeak.

Instead of getting a channel list, all I get is TheHavenNet next to al ittle purple star, and 20 seconds later, I get a Connection Timed Out and I get kicked.

People who are on at the time tell me that I am connecting. The log window is all but spammed with Zooggy connection and disconnection messages.

Any pointers?

Cheers,
J.

first question is what ip/domain are you connecting to, second question is do you have the patched .exe for teamspeak as well as the default installer.

Ahey, :)

First off, thanks for the reply.

what ip/domain are you connecting to

Tried two:

- teamspeak.thehavennet.org.uk
- promethius.thehavennet.org.uk

Both are sporting the exact same symptoms.

do you have the patched .exe for teamspeak as well as the default installer

That I wouldn't know. I was the one who installed it, but it was a while ago, some six months or so, I forget... (It was right after Bloodthirsty and merged into The Haven on Scarshield Legion in WoW.)

I should note, however, that I have successfully connected to TeamSpeak in the past. This problem is one week old, at the most.

Things I have already checked:

- I am not behind a firewall, though I am on a LAN
- Neither my router nor my switch are blocking or redirecting outgoing UDP (or TCP) ports in any way

Again, thanks for the help. :)

Cheers,
J.

Grab this use promethius.thehavennet.org.uk as the host and copy the text output into here - leave it running at least five mins whilst you do other things i.e game/browse etc.

You should see something along the lines of:

I can't see any issue there, make sure you grab the teamspeak updated exectuable:

http://www.goteamspeak.com/?page=downloads

And setup Teamspeak (in TeamSpeak Settings -> Option) to use Direct Sound if you are Wave or switch to Wave if you are in Direct Sound to see if this helps at all.

Can't think of anything else atm ...

Ahey, :)

Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling Teamspeak?

make sure you grab the teamspeak updated exectuable

setup Teamspeak to use Direct Sound if you are Wave or switch to Wave if you are in Direct Sound

No joy on any of these fronts. :(

Anyway, thanks for the continued help. Looks like I'll have to live without TeamSpeak for the moment... I'll keep trying and I'll post here if anything changes. And if anyone thinks of anything else I might try, I'll appreciate it...

Cheers,
J.

Try posting in the teamspeak support forums if you haven't already. Also try and find a random teamspeak server to connect to, perhaps 2 or 3 different ones, to see if you are having the same problems.

Ahoy, :)

This is getting really annoying...

About the TeamSpeak forums: there's a bazillion dudes with the same problem as me, and exactly zero helpful answers.

As for other servers: I'm having the same problem with every single one of them, including quite a few I tested right here in Portugal.

A funny thing did happen once, though: as I was testing on the planetteamspeak.com, I left the client on the 10 second retry loop and went to do other stuff. Having forgotten about it completely, I went back and, lo and behold, I was connected. I disconnected and tried to reconnect again, and it didn't work again.

I continued testing with various other servers, and I've come to the conclusion that, about 1% of the time, it connects successfully... :(

T-Bone also asked me if it might be a virus thing, but I doubt it, as I'm at the office, and we keep things clean and the anti-virus software current around here...

/despair

Cheers,
J.

Three main thoughts strike me, as a general approach to this sort of issue:

  • Drivers - network and sound card, have either changed? can you roll back?
  • Network - router problems? network card problems? hard drive corruption? changes at ISP level? can you swap out any hardware in the chain?
  • Software - new patches to Windows in the timeframe you've had problems? does it work on a different machine in the same network?

Ahey, :)

Once more, thanks for everyone's continued help and suggestions, it's helped clear my head and dig deeper on some points.

Neither network nor sound cards or drivers have changed on the machine in question. Furthermore, I've attempted to install TeamSpeak on other machines in the network, and the results were exactly the same: no joy.

However, I found out several things:

1) A few of my mates around here play Company of Heroes, and about the same time TS stopped functioning, they stopped being able to play online.

2) At or around the time when things died, our router suffered a major reconfiguration, in order to increase the flexibility with which we host multiple sites. We now have several incoming IP addresses and several HTTP/SSL proxies where we used to have only one. Presumably, however, no change was made to outgoing trafic, which continues to use our main IP, and inspection of the router configuration screens and tracert reports seems to verify this.

3) Also at or around the time when things died, there was a major power surge in the area, and several pieces of computing equipment fried or started displaying extremely odd behavior, including the network card on my work machine, which consistently failed to detect the network or even report itself to the OS.

So, I now believe that either (2) or (3) above is responsible for the problem. If it's (2), it's just a matter of figuring out what it is we did to the router to break things, then fix that. If it's (3), however, then the ultimate problem is probably at the ISP level, and I may well be screwed...

So, over the next few days, we will be looking into the problem, trying to figure out exactly just what the hell is going on...

In the meantime, if everyone out there is a network equipment whiz kid, our router is a Draytek Vigor 3300v. :)

Again, thanks for your continued support. I'll keep everyone posted as to my progress, and hopefuly, things will be back up and running by the time I finally get my Karazhan attunement. :)

Cheers,
J.

Ahoy, :)

Muwahahaha! Succeeeessss! :) :)

So, what was it?

As it turns out, the "major reconfiguration" I mentioned included, of all things, a firmware upgrade to the router. The new version of the firmware has a different philosophy with respect to defending against Denial of Service attacks.

It was improperly configured...

It has been corrected, and everything is working again.

I'm a happy camper! :)

One last note of appreciation for everyone that chimed in and gave suggestions. Y'all put us on the right track!

Cheers,
J.
