Right. Terraria is an indie game that is being developed right now, featuring low graphics, randomly generated worlds for you to explore, mold, fight in and...well, look for yourself, really.

I think it looks pretty interesting and can see myself getting this when it's out for some MP goodness :)

To give you a better idea about what the actual gameplay is like, here's first of a couple of let's play videos by the devs: linky and here's one by paperbat: linky. Definitely worth the watch if the trailer caught your attention.

I really do like the 2d aspect of the whole thing, reminds me of a great (also indie) game called Cortex Command. Although I don't think the gameplay trailer shows enough, the let's play videos the creators and a person called PBat made, do it so much more justice.

Indeed so. Given, the 2D aspect somewhat detracts from the building aspect of the game when compared to Minecraft, but the depth of RPG/fighting elements makes up for it, in my opinion. From what I'm informed there will be/is mana and "caster" gear, there are summonable bosses, corruption zones... It's all pretty funky. I'll link some of the let's play a pbat vids to the opening post.

From my good old days of playing Manic Miner, this does tickle my fancy indeed :D Will probably splash out on this when possible

Would be willing to give free copies of games I have on Steam for a copy for this (if someone gets the 4pack). Chat to me on Steam for what I have.

So I've picked it up and I'm giving it a go. It's quite enjoyable and relaxing. It appeals to more than Minecraft does at the moment.

Anyone know if you can create ladders or a way to move up the Z axis easily?

Yeah you can. Well, not ladders, but wooden platforms (only require wood and workbench). Those you attach in between two things (like tunnel walls or wooden walls you create etc) and then can jump through and stand on them or drop down from.
