I've updated our TF2 and L4D servers and they are back up and running.

Just to note, there is a lack of admin mods on both servers (though rcon is in place, of course). That's one of those "in the pipeline" things to solve.

I'm happy to take a look at what mods are available for both, and post back here with a little summary. Then we can all discuss which we think would benefit THN, and take votes on which we do and do not want!

Watch this space, as I'll be doing this today.

So briefly looking at server mods, it seems that Metamod:Source is the base of all mods available. It's recently been updated to 1.7 to include support for L4D, and has included TF2 support for a while now. There is a list of 3rd party plugins here on the site, but most are aimed at CS:S. Two important ones, though, are Main's Admin Plugin and SourceMod.

As Wol says, Mani's Admin Plugin (which is a plugin for Metamod:Source) seems like a reasonable mod that most people use as the Admin panel. Looks nice, and I'd say it's worth a try. I'll let those who care look into it more, but it's got a lot of things (end of map votes, server slots, admin list, etc.).

SourceMod is more a script base built on top of Metamod (from what I can see). And, helpfully, the site contains a list of plugins, of which we care about TF2 plugins and Left4Dead plugins. There are a LOT in those lists, so I definitely think it's worth add in SourceMod, if people see helpful items. These include things like Server Announcements (which generally piss me off while playing, but some people could find useful), all the way to modified weapons and gravity.

So, really, if people would like to see things from those lists on the TF2 or L4D servers, post up which and why (and remember that mods that help the community are more likely to get the go ahead than those that help individuals), then the admins have a list to look at, which only really makes our jobs easier! Obviously it doesn't mean you will definitely get these installed, but it shows us what the people want.

Cheers!

I would like to add the stats (hlxstats?) module to our server. Two reasons: gives us a reason to play on our own server preferentially, and gives us a feature that may help others who start to use our server to want to use it more.

I'm pretty indifferent to stats. It's fun watching your score go up from 1,000 everytime you join a server you haven't been on before, but I'm not fussed about getting it up high. Also, we'd have to tweak the scripts to allow clients to decide whether they receive notifications or not :) I hate the servers that have lots of annoying colours in the bottom left of my screen!

Ah, yeah, I'd prefer to keep server announcements to a minimum; just a little plugging of THN Games and our community, mostly.

Initially, I'd go with whatever is easiest. I think a main thing is to ensure there's an appropriate administration suite in play (with kick, ban, map change, campaign change, etc). Map voting might be good too, for TF2...?

I think map voting would be awesome. Rock the vote is good. When 50% of the players type RTV a map vote process is initiated.

lol let's make it one of those servers that every 5 seconds a big banner scrolls across the screen with JOIN THN NOW or Nanor will bum you on it.

Other than that keep it simple.

Map votes / rtv can be handy if the current map is starting to get dull.

And I'm up for stats :p. Being one of the few people who plays tf2 a fair bit :S 145 hours pyro! wooo. Used........ can't remember the name now. Pish. Some stats thing, which had a funky flash hitbox thing, but dont think it was hlstatsx. I remember setting up the website for it though a few years ago and it was quite good.

Oh, and anything that will let me slap Pingue of all but 1 of his health (Mani should do this :p )

Doesn't that only happen on games where you punish someone? Like friendly fire you can slap them. When do you punish on TF2 if you can't team kill?

I'd still beat you!! :p

And back on Topic, I'm never really fussed about any stats or anything - I prefer fairly clean servers...
