That new advert

[apologies if this has already been posted]

Wouldn't normally post up a link to a video of an advert, but I thought this one was funny.

Debate: Does this advert miss the mark (since I can't really work out what it has to do with the product it's selling...) or is it simply genius? I'm interested to hear any thoughts...

There was an explanation of what this ad is all aboot on Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show on Thursday. That gorilla is special in some way (don't ask me how I can't remember) but basically it was been waiting all its life for that moment so that it can finally realise his dream of playing the drums...

Very very good advert, love the expressiveness and cannot tell if its a suit or cgi which is also good.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday at Munn's when it came on during the Scotland game and we all just looked at each other in a 'What the hell was the point in that' kind of fashion. I knew it was a Cadbury's ad straight away from the glass and a half thing, but all in all it seems a bit pointless to me. It reminds me of that old Heinz beans ad (couldn't find it on YouTube :() where it just shows you 2 minutes of all these African (I assume) people and somehow you are supposed to make the connection between beans and Africans.

I never see the point in these adverts, like they are meant to have some greater meaning but it's obviously lost on the greater population.

Is it cool? Yeah. But does it work, or even have any relevance, as an advert? For me, not really.

... is anybody else hungry for chocolate? :)

It does exactly what it's meant to do - plants the "cadburys" logo and etc firmly in your head. You think it's a cool ad, and you think about cadburys. Success!

This is true, some people probably will find it all rather appealing, but I'm not really taken in by this kind of ad. Plus, Cadbury's chocolate tastes like shit, no ad in the world can change that.

In retrospect, it is a good corporate strategy and this thread stands testament to that. Strange advert ---> strong opinions ---> discussion on forum thread ---> further highlighting of company ---> win!

plus whenever I hear Phil Collins I think of a gorilla playing the drums, which connects to cadburys.

:O I think it tastes really nice. I have a bar waiting to be eaten, and I'm looking forward to it. Just a matter of opinion :)

Anyone tasted Hershey's chocolate? Now there's shit rapped in foil if ever I saw it.

Then you must be the opposite of me :) I love Hershey's, but Dairy Milk tastes a bit artificial and powdery. Mars chocolate is about the best you get over here, Celebrations > Miniature Heroes any day. The only good Cadbury bar is Time Out, but for some reason nobody else likes 'em :/

Hershey's is nasty american filth. Dairy milk is by far the closest thing we have to chocolate in the UK. But we are really just eating Vegielate any way as there is so little cocoa in our chocolate. You have to go to main land Europe to get real chocolate.

Ya, my manager brings back chocolate from his [strike]junkets[/strike] business excursions to Switzerland. Is goooooood, Swiss chocolate always has that noisettey hazelnutty taste that I love so much.

Actually, I just remembered the one true royal chocolate - Milka. Only seem to find it in duty-free and the continent though, unfortunately.

I have to agree with KC, Cadbury's beats Hershey's hands down. I lived in America for 2 years and hated the fact I couldn't get decent Chocolate. It just tastes really cheap.

In saying that Mars beats everyone hands down with the Galaxy bar.
