I wanted to, but the map scrolling seems to be updated in the render loop, meaning I can only scroll to the very edges of the map, even with everything set to the lowest speeds. It's just not playable now, at least for me.

That game was nasty the last time I tried it (granted it was a couple of years ago) and for me it wouldn't come anywhere near a top 20 free games list

TMNF is free now isn't it? Surely that should be up there!

I don't like TM personally, but I feel it should be on the list

TA for me was such an awesome game that Spring just felt like a massive letdown. It was also in an unfinished stage when I played it, and it didn't play very nicely at all.

Still, I take your point that there aren't many free and open source RTS games about...

I do feel that trackmania should be on there. It was awesome as a concept in 2006 and is still massively popular now. All the community backend on it as well makes it a truly awesome game. Or maybe it doesn't count due to the paid for elements of united.
