Freaky weather ahoy!

Massive Cyclone about to hit Queensland:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12342031
"Queensland residents have been told it is now too late to escape as the most dangerous storm ever predicted to hit the state makes its approach."

1/3rd of USA being hit by severe snowstorms:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12339494
"Nearly 27,000 homes in Texas and 14,000 in Ohio were without power, and storm alerts were issued in 19 states. "

Do you think this is random or brought upon us by our neglect/abuse of the planet and it's natural rescources aka Global Warming?

OH GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIEEEEEEEEEEE

...

To be honest, storms this size do gather but are quite rare, it's just coincidental that a large number of such storms seem to be affecting multiple areas at once.

Impossible to say.

However I would say that messing about with the climate by releasing around 7 billion metric tons of CO2 a year isn't exactly a safe bet.

Worth remembering that weather != climate and vice versa. I think that's why they now talk about "climate change" rather than "global warming" to try to make that distinction clearer.

Duh. Of course not!

Can we have some snow please. It's boring down here still.

I actually think this is actually quite a big issue for the climate change researchers to address.

People have very short memories. They need to be able to explain in a way that everyone can understand, why in some regions, on occasion, it is very cold compared to those same regions on those same occasions in the near past, while the earth, as a whole is getting warmer.

Well Citizens of the world, we've had a good innings. There were times when we got a bit.... high spirited you might say. A small gaffe or two in northern Europe throughout most of the start of the 20th century, plus the odd genocide but otherwise I think we've done very well for ourselves. We've had a bit of luck with all those fossil fuels we've been pumping into the atmosphere too. Who'd have thought that we'd get away without doing any damage to the Earth? I mean, it's the only one we've got, so treating it with anything other than respect would be silly, if not downright suicidal! I'm sure we can go out knowing that we cared for this planet to the best of our ability :)

Oh wait, that's right. I'm a cynic not an optimist. We're doomed.

Maybe this is the planet's way of controlling the population - there are too many of us as it is so maybe this is a natural cycle:

Too many people = lots of CO2 = severe weather = DEATH!!!!! = Less people :D

severe weather, old people can't afford heating in the winter, old people die, less people?

But then theres some external "lets all help the old people with money" thing in it all.

Natural selection doesn't feel so good when you're not picked for the surviving team.

That said, VHEMT. (Though, in theory, that just seems like a way for the liberal intelligensia to wipe themselves out, me included.)

It's ok, the environment can take another one for the team...

So we conclude: more people = less people ...
