The Driving Song Debate

Okay, it's time for...

THN's 2007/2008 Driving Song Debate

Everyone has their ideas about music - some like wildly different genres and some songs require or evoke a specific mood. So... let's get a friendly debate going. What do you think constitutes a 'good' driving song? Do you even like to have music when you're driving, or do you just like to have the window down and listen to the engine purr? Post up with your thoughts!

And of course, you'll need to give your top 10 driving tracks! :)

To start off with, I'm going to go with some that don't always feature in the top 10 lists everyone always compiles. So, mine are as follows (in no particular order):-

  • Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band
  • Porcelain - Moby
  • Pick a Part That's New - Stereophonics
  • Cosmic Girl - Jamerioquai
  • Higher Ground - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
  • TNT - AC/DC
  • Enter Sandman - Metallica
  • Beautiful Day - U2
  • Take It Easy - The Eagles
  • Freebird - Lynard Skynard
I will mention that these are not the only driving songs I like or that I listen to, but it is my attempt at a list that is not identical to those that everybody seems to throw up when asked.

... Over to you!

I'm just gonna add some good songs to the list:

Steely Dan - Jack of Speed : a classic. This is a studio band though, so this live recording doesn't really do it justice.

Basically any Jazz/rock tune that's mellow is a good driving song, methinks.

Then there's folk, that works well too.

Koppången is a nice swedish tune. Works best if it's snowing.

Then there's lounge; doesn't get much more mellow...

Hird - Keep you Kimi
