The THN Wiki!

Ok so some of you may or may not know that THN, as well as the forums, also have a wiki.

I would like to make more use of this fact by using the wiki to keep track of things that are constantly changing within the guild such as progression and who can craft what.

To that end, i would like to point out to you that there are such pages already in existence on the wiki - You can find them linked from this page of the wiki.

However, i want your ideas for things you think could/should go on there. There is already a list of tradeskills (though it probably needs updating) and various other bits, what isn't there that you think should be? What do you think would be useful to have there?

Also, the point of a wiki is that it can be editied by anyone - so feel free to edit the wiki and put some info on there if you think it will be useful, however if its stuff that's related to the guild then I will try and moderate it so that we can just keep what is relevant up there.

<-- has created account, edited a couple pages and went off to study again. Will be back later for more updatage.

Frankly what we need is everyone properly updating their tradeskill lists and possibly page listing guild members AND THEIR ALTS.

Above all, though, we need to raise awareness about the wiki, which is what you're doing Qball and thank you for that.

A little bit of info for all:

-I'm slowly moving all of the information on guild rules for general situations, for raiding, looting, etc etc onto the wiki. When I've done this, the threads on the forum for them will be deleted. Any future threads about rules will merely be announcements about updates that people need to go and check
-The Professions listings are one of the key things we'd like general Guild help with. Most of the sections were incomplete in TBC, and all of them except Inscriptions are now basically obsolete. It would be ace if some people could delve into those sections and list all of the Wrath entries for the professions, linking each recipe (not the crafted item, the actual recipe itself) to the relevant Wowhead page. Once the entries are done, people can list their characters' names behind the ones they can do.
-To go with the major crafters in the guild, a small sub-page detailing the main alts of each character, so you can work out who to go to in-game. For example, if you looked on the Inscriptions page, saw the name "Syraneth" as one of the Scribes that could make a glyph you're after, you should be able to click on the name and be taken to a page where it'd list my other characters in the guild, and you'd know who to look out for in guild.
-A "mod review" section; many people like to play and experiment with new mods, so I'm thinking that a section on the wiki where someone can nominate a mod (not one of the raiding essential mods, mind) and give a link to it and a small review on it, and then others can try it out and similarly review it. It'd be a good way to raise awareness of different mods that could be extremely useful. For example, how many of you know about ClosetGnome? Or ClassTimers? Both useful (imo), and a small set of reviews could help people improve their UI!

I will personally be sorting through the Rules sections, and the PvE Progressions sections are left to myself and T-bone to update.

In time, I hope we can make more use of the wiki and add more useful sections to it. The intention is to make it the hub for all information you might need to look up, so that questions don't get asked in the forums or on /g.

As a side note, I'm nominally in charge of the wiki but actually I know very little about how to run one. If you guys are ramping up your use of the wiki then you might like a bit more power over running your bits of it. I'd be happy for a couple of volunteers for a bit more admin power there (thatbloke, I'm thinking of you here).

Sure dude :D

We can have a chat about it when you are available next :)

OK, I'm going to poke it around some more. Stop me if you think that's needed.

EDIT: I lied, I'm going to bed instead. Sorry ^^

What would this entail? We already have the ability to add and edit wiki pages. Are there further elements to wiki-editing that require higher levels of access?

Moderation, I believe, requires higher access than you have.

TB already does stuff with wikis elsewhere so I'll chat with him about what's involved.

Basically the ability to restore pages to previous versions in the event that someone changes something, administer wiki accounts, the ability to lock out pages, stuff like that :)

I have updated a couple of things on the wiki.

If there are things you want on the wiki but are not on there currently, let us know.

The main part of it that needs updating at the moment is regarding professions, a list of desirable items that people can make with their professions would be appreciated.

Some pages exist, but are in serious need of an update.

Expect these to be updated within the week :)

Also, I have made a template that you can use for easily linking to a character on the EU armory. The template is used as follows:

Code:
{{armory|Character Name|[optional]Realm Name}}

That is, two curly braces, followed by the word "armory" (sorry spelling freaks but its how Blizz spell it so tough). You then use the pipe "|" character and specify the character name.

The realm name is optional. If you do not specify it then it will default to "Scarshield Legion". Some examples of use:

  • Code:
    {{armory|Qantaqa}}
    - this will link to the character "Qantaqa" on the realm Scarshield Legion.
  • Code:
    {{armory|Qantaqa|Lightning's Blade}}
    - this will link to the character "Qantaqa" on the realm "Lightning's Blade"

I have used the template on the Guild Ranks page so feel free to look at that and check its wiki code (press edit) to see how it is used. Note that it places the text representing the character name you supply into the wiki document as an external link.

Note that using this template saves you alot of typing - to achieve the same effect without using the template then you would need to use the following wiki syntax:
[noparse][http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Scarshield+Legion&n=Qantaqa Qantaqa][/noparse]

If there are other templates that people feel would be useful, suggest them here and I'll have a go at creating them :)
