Seeing as how we have the new THN server up (YAY!), I was thinking, could a few (One fills fast) Hamachi servers be hosted on it? :) (And possibly move the existing one to it aswell.)

Indeed it is. It's a program that is mostly designed to help gamer set up games together by providing a VPN to each other. As far as I know, you don't need "servers" to run Hamachi networks, you just create one (which does not have any limit) when you run Hamachi. So, Psi, what are you talking about? If you mean a specific game, in a Hamachi network, I'm not sure if that's really worth it...

Otherwise, I have no idea what you are asking, and I've been using Hamachi for a good few years now... And there is already a THN network on Hamachi. Can't remember the password for the life of me though.

It's thn, lowercase. Why I ask this is, because, every time someone has created one for us to game on, it's lagged like hell (Because home internet connections tend to have bad upload?), and the existing THN Hamachi network is full, with people that don't even go on it regularly.

Hamachi is just a way of routing traffic, Psi, it has nothing to do with game servers. Therefore, even is THN did "host" a Hamachi network (which you can't do anyway), the lag would still be the same due to the people on the network hosting the games. If you run the game server on the THN server, and route it through Hamachi, then you are basically asking for another game server to be run, or you're asking for access to run whatever game server you want, and run it in the Hamachi network. Both of which seem a little wasteful unless lots of people are in agreement of the game server to run, and it doesn't cause any problems for the rest of THN, AND haven is happy with it.

You can always set up your own network on Hamachi if the THN one is full, it's very easy.

So, in the case of lag, it's because of people hosting the games, or them having not great connections when playing the games - trying to find a dedicated server on the net would be best. Hamachi (being a VPN) adds overheads (though possibly small) to routing of packets, which will add some lag too. If you don't have a great connection, try running just the game, and nothing else (including Hamachi) that uses the internet. If you need Hamachi (some older games like System Shock 2 just plain old refuse to work without it) then you might need a better connection :)

Well, considering the reason I want to use Hamachi is because some of my friends have trouble with online servers.

The lag all goes down to the person hosting the network, not the people hosting the game.

If we can't get another Hamachi network then can we atleast have the networked cleared of space wasters regularly?

Well, looking at How Hamachi Works:

Hamachi is a UDP-based virtual private networking system. Its peers utilize the help of a third node called a mediation server to locate each other and to bootstrap the connection between them. The connection itself is direct and once it is established no traffic flows through our servers.

Hamachi is not just truly peer-to-peer; it is verifiably secure peer-to-peer.

Believe it or not, but we are able to successfully mediate p2p connections in roughly 95% of all cases we have dealt with so far. This includes peers residing behind various firewalls or broadband routers (aka NAT devices). It is high-tech and it is really cool :)

More to follow soon ...

This means that though someone is the "owner" of a network, no traffic to routed through them when people on the network are communicating. Being the "owner" only allows you to delete the network, etc. Being Peer-2-Peer, the lag comes from information being sent between users on the network, NOT the network, as no one "hosts" a network. Therefore, it IS the game host that causes the lag, as this person has all traffic from clients routed to them to pass to all other clients.

For example, if person A creates a network on Hamachi, Network1, and then persons B and C join Network1 and play a game, Game1. No traffic, whatsoever, from Game1 is sent to person A, unless person A joins the game. All lag is due to connection between persons B and C (with the overhead of the Hamachi encryption, which is quite interesting to read, if you like cryptography, etc.).

It is also interesting to note that Hamachi uses UDP, which is connectionless, and may drop packets.

It DOES lag, now I don't know why, but it always lags. No matter who hosts, the only time it seems not to lag is if it's hosted somewhere else, like on a server.

@Pia, how am I the lazy one when people can't be bothered to disconnect inactive users and log out when they haven't used the network in a long time making room for others.

The amount of time you've spent constructing these posts you could've set up your own server by now.. :p

Unfortunately trying to get others to solve your problem when you can do it yourself does makes you the lazy one. Just leave Zomg Squad, quit complaining about the people in it, and make your own network. Problem solved, unless of course you're incapable of doing that?

Yes, I am. :)

Can you just clean the server our or something, or let me do it, because having 16 people there and only 3 or so actively use it, is a pain!

Nope, in fact I might start actively booting you from it every time you log on. It's not an official THN network, just something we put together for Total Annihilation, and I don't remember inviting you into it. So, how about you take your lethargic arse, create your own network, and stop giving me the satisfaction of booting you from Zomg Squad.
