THN is thinking of playing...

Ronin mentioned in the TF2 thread that people seem to wait for other people to start a game, then jump on the band wagon. I was thinking we could give a way so everyone knows what people want to play. If we could have somewhere on the main page something that tells us what THNers are thinking of playing. Like this:

You log onto THN and somewhere obvious you can click a link and a window pops up. In that window you can select the game or games you wish to play. For example, I could select Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield 2. Somewhere else on the main page it would say something like "X THNers want to play...". When you click that it opens another pop up which says "

• Y THNers want to play Team Fortress 2 - These players are...
• Z THNers want to play Battlefield 2 - These players are...

and so forth. That way, you would know what people want to play and you can then tackle someone on X-Fire about starting a game. The I want to play should time out after an hour or two.

It's a good idea. In many ways it is similar to Play Finder except more temporary and visible from the front page. I'll give it some thought.

I've been thinking that the list of games provided would be larger than Play Finder, potentially built on user-input (and Admin moderated) games. The list in Play Finder would do as a start but may actually be insufficiently fine detail. Are you planning to play Company of Heroes with or without Opposing Fronts? That's not something I intend Play Finder to cover but this tool should.

Technically, yes, but that relies on them being both on Xfire and available at the moment you want to talk to them. This system, as I see it, as an asynchronous way of declaring "hey, I'm interested in game XYZ / any old game" and for others to add themselves into that list if they're also interested and/or use that marker as a guide for who they should be contacting about what game.

Asynchronous is the key, though. I might post 4-5 hours ahead of when I'd be interested in playing to see who might be around or to choose a game that'd interest more THNers. All very well me deciding to play Crysis multiplayer if no one else fancies that this evening.

maybe what to do is to pull the list off of X-fire and then give the option to have a custom game with the option of submitting it to the default list
