THN Meet 2006 proposal

As those of you who were on TeamSpeak last night when it was suggested willl know, I mentioned the possibility of organising a THN meet for 2006 and there seemed to be a lot of interest.

Last year we had a meet in portrush which went down rather well and a good time was had by all (thanks to duren for hosting).

This year I think it would be nice if we tried another gaelic nation and we're going to head to bonnie scotland for a few days.

The Plan:

This is early stage stuff and we're still planning so please post up thoughts/suggestions/opinions in response to this - help us make it an event you'd want to go to !

The plan at the moment is to find somewhere north of glasgow - possibly loch Lomond or Tay or a coastal camp site area (so I can bodyboard :P). Shadow came up with the great idea that we could hire a shed/barn type thing designed for groups to stay in. That way we could make plenty of noise and not annoy people. A backup plan is that I'm sure we can pool enough tents between us to make a campsite viable. We'll try and meet up sometime early to mid August (post up availability and date preferences please!) for a long weekend. Beer will be mandatory and probably warm clothes too :)

T-Bone and Shadow and I have cars so we'll have some transport available. Depending on who else is going we can probably arrange car pooling/petrol sharing to keep costs minimal as much as we can. We'll organise all that once we know who wants to come along.

Thats as far as my thoughts have gone. First thing is for us all to get googling and find somewhere we'd like to stay. Second step is to agree a date. Third step is we get it booked.

Get googling and post up what you find :) Also post up availabiliy and whether you're interested in coming along so we have an idea of numbers.

Sounds like a plan! Only thing being that north of Glasgow is gonna be a bomb for thatclan and me, who live in Portsmouth and Reading respectively :( Still, It sounds like a good idea, and maybe late summer would be nice? Miss all the rush of the families going on holiday (so its a bit cheaper), and usually nicer weather. As for place, I'm googling now...

I'm sure PhatBambi or Piacular has a car ... or just grab a train straight up the west coast line to glasgow. Travel costs are obviously going to be higher for those on the south coast but you know it'll be worth it :)

Me and Missy are interested.
Camping sounds like the only way this could work.
Ive got transport and camping equipment as well, and coming from Manchester isnt too much of a trip.

Yeah..go on then..lets break the myth's.

Flying is actually cheaper then getting the train! Its about ?25 each direction on a plane, whereas it's something stupid like ?60 each way! Still, it might be worth it, yes...

IIRC you can get a coach for around ?40-?50 to Glasgow from Portsmouth. I have done it before... took 14 hours to get there!!! (damn traffic...) only took 11 on the way back :)

Yeah, 11+ hours on a coach isn't my idea of fun :) And seeing as 2x ?25 is the same price as the coach (and takes like 45 minutes or whatever it is), I'd rather take that option ;)

I want MegaPlane now :D For those that don't know, MegaBus is a company that do coach trips between a variety of places and London for a pound. ?1. Thats ?2 return... They also recently made a MegaTrain that does Southampton to London (I think).

I am most definitely interested. Of course, because it's in Scotland, I should be able to make this meet :D. And I'll be 18 by that point, hence also my desire for much alcohol beverage consuming. :D

I'll take a look at some places online if I get the time.

Yes and it's probably the slowest service under the sun.

It's all about SW trains mate. London - S'oton 1.5 hrs. Oh yeah!

I've seen a fair number of Virgin and GNER trains from London (Euston I think) to Glasgow Central - if you're on the route then you're in for a nice ride.

Indeed, but its expensive, thats the only problem :(

Edit - the one from Soton goes to Edinburgh in like 5 hours or something.

Ok how many people in Southhampton need transport - I am thinking of driving especially if we share the cost of fuel - plus you would have to like my music or re-inact wing walking on a car roof!

yay lynx can be the driver!! i think by that stage (u will have to confirm with leander panda!) that it will just be the bloke and myslef from soton and we can meet u at fareham to make it quicker.

although i am quite up for flying!! sounds like fun and dirt cheap!

any way um.... yea i cant wait! even if the THN crew dont go u think bloke and i will go anyway as we will need a holiday!!

I was just doing a run over the THN forums and came upon this.

I'll be up for a THN meet in august definitely. It'd be good to see, old and new faces and possibly, take a drink or two... not that I do that often ya know :)

Really? I think they smell funny.

Edit - the one from Soton goes to Edinburgh in like 5 hours or something.

Don't give them any respect it's still shit. French TGV, Paris - Marseilles 2-3hrs. And it's amazing quality!

I'm thinking of going... I'm in Reading when not at Uni though, so I could always meet ya in London (seeing as I can get to Paddington or Waterloo in little over 30 mins) and the tube from there! \o/

Would be pretty damn good to have a road trip that lasts a good 10 hours!

And pHatBambi, I am in no way saying that the British Rail system is good! I've lived with it for 4 years now, and I hate it! I wanna go on that Japanese magnet train... Hmmm.... Floating trains!
